The Stardew Valley movies are cute, sweet, well done, but let’s face it, it’s not Shrek. I mean, when you’ve done the best thing you’ve ever done: completing community updates, finding the missing package, downloading 1000G on a ticket, you want to see something good. In fact, you want something… Shrektacular.
Well now, thanks to a new mod from supposed genius Cofee0001, every time you go to the Stardew Valley movie theater, you have an ironclad pale green quality guarantee, because they’ll be showing the original (and better) Shrek movie.
That’s not the whole movie, that would be illegal or, if you prefer, “disrespectful”. But projected wide and wide from the back of Joja’s Warehouse, this carefully crafted slideshow of low-res PNG images is still capable of shocking, horrifying and delighting, just like its feature film of the same name. We won’t spoil it, but there is something interesting about Shrek in Stardew Valley. It’s Shrek as you’ve seen him before, then Shrek as you’ll probably never see him again.
The mod is available for free download and can really bring some real mechanical benefits to your Stardew Valley game. If you buy two movie tickets and give one to a friend (remember to do it on the same day if it doesn’t expire) then they will come to see the movie with you and if they like it they can increase your relationship by 100 or 200 friendship points.
We haven’t tested all of the combinations yet, but it’s safe to assume that all of your Stardew Valley friends will love Shrek. It’s the kind of movie that can turn casual acquaintances into loving companions. Either that or traumatize them for life.
