Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 could consume more power than RTX 3070

The Nvidia RTX 4060 should be the next best green rig graphics card for entry-level gaming PCs, but a new leak suggests it consumes as much power as the RTX 3070. It may also require replacing the power supply to keep the next gen- satiated newcomer.

In a tweet, trusted leader save 7kimi questions the capabilities of the RTX 4060 GPU, while stating that it “consumes more power than the RTX 3070”. The tipster also casually references another RTX 4000 release date rumor that suggests the RTX 4060 could launch in January 2023 (via Wccftech).

The RTX 3070 has a TDP of 220W and Nvidia recommends using a 650W PSU to power the GPU. If Kopite7kimi’s rumors are true, low-spec gamers may need to treat the RTX 4060 like an RTX 3070 Ti, a card that’s far from entry-level by today’s standards. While the prospect of strong entry-level contenders will excite some gaming PC enthusiasts, we’ll have to see if the jump in performance translates into additional discreet upgrade costs.

As with all rumours, Kopite7kimi’s RTX 4060 power consumption claims are to be taken with a grain of salt. However, this rumor may help put the card’s potential price into perspective, as the performance upgrade could be priced differently than the RTX 3060 at $329.

Again, we’ll have to wait for Nvidia’s official announcement for clarification, but gamers looking for flashy, cheap performance may need to look further down to save a penny later this year. After all, the GeForce GTX 1630 may be on its way and it could change RTX’s nifty tricks on the cheap.
