Ripout sci-fi horror movie experience

Like most of my generation, I have a strong weakness for 1980s horror films based on the feature-length creature, led by the cult twin films Aliens and The Thing. So, a new indie game from Serbian team Pet Project Games grabbed my attention as soon as it was discovered, as the theme crawls through the darkened corridors of spaceships in the near future (2080), swarming with biomechanical monsters capable of fusing biomass with technology, and itself. Luckily, your weapon has this ability, and you don’t have to go into this fight alone, but you can bring along a friend or two who will dynamically adjust to the difficulty of the game.

The plot and environment of the game is also not badly thought out. In an effort to stop the alien attack, humans in 2080 created a technology nicknamed “The Cell” that allows the deadly combination of biomass with technology. But Cell regained consciousness and turned against everyone, including against its creators. The consequences for planet Earth have been devastating, and desperate people are trying to escape in a fleet of spaceships. But even this cell of the convoy penetrated and gradually infected one ship after another. Your task is to make careful landings on infected ships (one mission takes about 10-20 minutes), collect key resources and eliminate the biomechanical threat.

An important assistant is your unique weapon, the so-called “Pet-gun” (Pet Rifle). It includes an organic creature that you can send towards your enemies during combat to grab them or even rip out some of their arsenal (like a ravenous laser cannon or a devastating melee secondary claw) and bring it to you. At the same time, you can switch the Pet Gun into different modes, such as assault rifle or shotgun, etc. Given the relatively high difficulty of most enemy encounters, being able to send your weapon into battle will be an important part of your tactics. However, enemies can also snatch useful parts from each other, so to your dismay, they will sometimes power up and transform together right in front of you during combat.

A large part of the gameplay should be the random generation of game maps, be it the placement of doors, enemies, objects, or mission objectives. However, from the current early version of the game, it looks like many of the rooms will look very similar, which detracts a bit from the sense of fluidity. The control also impressed me that it still lacks some setting (and it doesn’t work at all on the controller yet). Nevertheless, the game already breathes an interesting atmosphere, and if the creators manage to build the promised story campaign in an interesting way, I would really like this indie to like it.

You can add the game to your wishlist on Steam, where you can also find a demo of the game. It should come out this year.
