The Rust Combat update for Facepunch is out now and it’s the biggest change to Rust Combat since the multiplayer survival game first released in 2013. The Combat update makes knockback more tolerable and less like fighting with a weapon. of your enemies
“In the end, being a good first-person shooter and letting someone down wasn’t enough,” Facepunch explains in the patch notes. “It was fun for people who could spend thousands of hours learning their aim, or mentally broke people who chose to use dashes to gain an advantage. It wasn’t fun for 99% of the population and it’s time for a change.”
With the new update, automatic weapons become progressively less accurate the longer you hold the trigger, so you no longer have to fight heavy recoil the moment you start shooting. Facepunch also adjusted the weight of the bullet. About 20% of bullets fired will hit the center of the spread, meaning automatic weapons are now less useful from a distance, which Facepunch says should help players think about the best weapon for each situation. .
Another new feature that should help players decide which weapon to use is the reticle, which is finally making its way into Rust after nearly a decade of improvisation and modification by players. Rust’s scope gives you a rough idea of how accurate your shots are based on where you’re standing and what weapon you’re using, and Facepunch said they’re planning more scope customization options in the future.
Rust’s combat update also changes view models to better suit your actions, including hitting harder when firing weapons and nodding while sprinting. You can change them and even disable them if they cause problems.
There are many other improvements and adjustments in the patch. Horses now move faster on the tracks because they certainly do, while bows are more durable and you can see how many coaches you have on your train screen. A new set of Item Shop sprays lets you paint the world of Rust however you want, and Hapis Island is finally back with a few new additions and hopefully a lot fewer bugs.
All of this comes just a month after Rust’s extensive Facepunch railway update and the addition of pets in early 2022. Rust is still in development, but it’s clear that Facepunch has big plans for the future.
