Valve has announced that the release of the official Steam Deck is delayed due to a combination of parts shortages and the closure of official Steam Deck manufacturing facilities due to COVID-19. There is no new date for the dock yet, but the company ensures that the production of the Steam Deck itself, which recently received an update that fixes fan noise, will not be affected.
A brief update from Valve reads: “Hello everyone. Due to parts shortages and the closure of our manufacturing facilities due to COVID, the official Steam Deck is delayed. We are working to improve the situation and will share more information when we have it. This does not affect the Steam Deck production schedule and pre-order windows (different rooms, different factories).”
The update also states: “In the meantime, the team continues to work to improve the Steam Deck Dock experience with all USB-C hubs and external displays.” Following the announcement of this delay, it is likely that some users will be looking for a better third-party Steam Deck, so any feature improvements will be welcome.
Although the Steam Deck is a useful portable gaming solution, some users find it an affordable solution for personal computers or for gaming on a spare TV.
We’ll be sure to let you know when the official Steam Deck is available. Meanwhile, the Steam Deck mod adds hot-swappable accessories to the laptop. We’ve also found the best Steam Deck SD card to expand your storage options.
