The latest The Division 2 update, TU 15.1, brings a major fix to the new experience system introduced in Season 9. The experience system, which includes earning Mastery ranks on the player’s gear, was awarding too many points based on the death experience. said Ubisoft. Now that the XP reward has been recalculated and players who have been active during this season will likely see their MMORPG skill level drop.
The Division 2’s new experience system works like this: You gain proficiency ranks on all gear, weapons, and abilities your character uses in battle, or by sacrificing multiple copies of an item until you reach rank 10, at which point the element can be updated. An agent’s experience level is determined by the number of items they own, which in turn determines how many times they can upgrade a piece of gear.
The problem was that the experience needed to reach level 20, but players found that they could increase their experience after that. Ubisoft says this will cause significant long-term balance issues for The Division 2 and has therefore recalculated the “value” of experience per kill in Mastery rank progression.
With the reduction in experience per kill, players will find that they have now earned fewer Mastery ranks over the course of the season, and thus have potentially reached a lower Mastery level. This also means that players who have upgraded their gear above level 20 (the intended max skill level) will see those upgrades revert.
“Please note that we are unable to provide exactly the same number of attachments due to a lack of in-game data” Ubisoft says in a tweet alerting players to the situation.
Yannick Banchero, creative director of The Division 2, explains that players don’t lose XP for killing have been earned: experience requirements for master’s degrees are changing. However, this may be a bit of a consolation for players who have lost gear or spent time buffing this season.
