Also in May, I mostly played Fortnite, although due to the influx of work, not as close to the game as in April. Among other things, I made up for bans at two big conferences, coincidentally in Brno (Animefest and Game Access). I’ve also tried the slightly controversial “movie” horror The Quarry or the entertaining, if not very long-winded, indie FPS Ripout, from which I’ll offer more detailed impressions shortly.
As someone who remembers Brno otaks in the form of the meetings of the first three eccentrics in cafes, I was very pleased to see thousands of otaks, otakins and otakinchats in costumes at the crowded fairgrounds. Thanks to the big audience for the emotions at the lecture, and I will wait for her again next time 🇯🇵 pic.twitter.com/T9OMXj7BJo

And although June will be more relaxed in terms of upcoming games, in terms of announcements and demonstrations, we are probably waiting for the harvest. Although E3 has been officially cancelled, individual publishers will still use June to reveal their games and plans. So we have a confirmed PlayStation, Xbox show and I have no doubt that Nintendo will be joining as well. Not to mention the “opening” of the season from Geoff Keighley. Among other things, we will likely see Starfield in action for the first time, we may see the God of War Ragnarök date announcement, take a look at The Last of Us remake or multiplayer, and possibly PSVR2 games as well. We game lovers have a busy month ahead, so keep your fingers crossed so we can write it all down and be with us.

The next month is gone, the next month is ahead of us. However, I must say for myself that May has been probably the busiest so far. We finally saw the release of a story-driven RPG from my beloved World of Darkness universe in the form of Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, which I immediately reviewed, so details can be found here. But maybe I can discover that the result, thank God, is not tragic. And at the very beginning of the month, one pleasant samurai journey was born. However, I am fortunate to have interesting games outside of my duties at Zing. I ran into, for example, a definitely relaxing sonic drop problem that I recommend to anyone with a bit of rhythm in their body. Following in the footsteps of many other players, my friends and I set out to test the survival of V Rising, which also works with the theme of vampires, but in this case, gothic, not modern. And for me it’s just as much of a surprise as last year’s Valheim, so thumbs up. But let’s hope that the authors will bring new content faster than from the mentioned Viking project.
In any case, I had to really enjoy these projects, because June will be a real game for me. Not because nothing worked during it. I’m interested in at least an interesting Card Shark or a new strategy from the world of Star Infantry. Also, I probably won’t miss the Outriders shooter expansion because of my friends (although the base game isn’t a marvel). However, June clearly marks the gradual arrival of summer, and especially the beginning of the festival season, so there will not be much time for the game itself. In addition, the weather begins to favor some kind of travel and “tours”, so it will be a shame to sit at home.

May was not the easiest for me. I was struggling with illness and stress for a bit, so I resorted to… Well, the last part of Animal Crossing. I was a bit skeptical because neither The Sims nor Stardew Valley had ever approached me. But in this case, I kind of settled down and rearranged the rooms, built a sushi restaurant, or watered boxes. And it really helps me. Chopping wood? Zen. Fishing with such gentle splashes in the background? Total Zen. In addition to previous episodes, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has “more likeable” minor characters who just want to befriend you. If you are looking for a completely conflict free game where you will drown for a lot of time, I can only recommend it. And especially for those who are looking for a nice community of players, because Animal Crossing is only played by paragon players who selflessly help each other on Reddit, exchange furniture items and distribute fruits.
I’ve been pretty loyal to the Switch this month because otherwise I’ve only had time to play Star Wars: Force Unleashed (and write a review). In particular, the port was prepared by Krome Studios and Aspyr Studio on Switch. This 14-year-old action-adventure no longer looks the best and deserves a remake, or at least a remaster. But it’s all about the action, not the graphics or dialogue, and taking control of the gifted apprentice Darth Vader himself will leave you with a warm sense of power right from the start. Starkiller is generally not a positive protagonist and can throw people against a wall, choke them in the air, electrocute them. Animal Like Animal Crossing, this game has little ambition other than just to entertain you. And sometimes that’s all you need.

Of the May games, I spent the most time on Sniper Elite 5 (review). The developers from the Rebellion studio, even in the case of the fifth part, used the same ingredients from which they created the previous parts. At the top, a slightly more diverse location and the possibility of intrusions were added. Fans of the series and stealth events in general should not be disappointed. But perhaps too much confidence was reflected in the repetitive storyline and overall very simplistic way of storytelling. Players can also sometimes be bothered by illogical AI behavior and, in some places, excessive barriers in the game world.
Of the other games, I definitely wanted to spend more time in the new Army with the subtitle Reforger. However, persistent server issues have halted my efforts, at least for now. At the end of the month, I also attended the Game Access Developers Conference, where I listened to many interesting talks and tried out some interesting standalone games.
June, as usual, will be the month of gaming conferences and newly announced games. I’m looking forward to the Jeff Keighley Summer Game Festival and the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, where Microsoft will compete against the big games. Sony should keep up with their State of Play event. In addition, the large conferences will, as usual, be supplemented by several other smaller events. So you definitely don’t have to worry about not having anything to read on Zing.
