One of the most annoying issues when playing multiplayer games is getting the same map multiple times in a row, but developer Riot Games believes Valorant’s map selection variety issue has finally been resolved with the April FPS game update.
In a new article published today, Brian Chang, a member of the Valorant Competitive Team, details the random map issue and why it continues to be an issue for Riot Games despite numerous attempts to fix it. The team had previously attempted to create a “pseudo-random” process that attempted to use cards that the 10 players present hadn’t seen recently, but while it helped, there was still a chance, and a survey in March found that 67% of players who found the same letters “often”.
In last April’s Valorant 4.04 patch, Riot introduced a “deterministic map system” intended to “increase the variety of maps players will encounter.” From a technical point of view, the selection of cards is no longer random: the system completely removes cards from the selection pool if they appear too often.
According to Riot, after the introduction of this system in 4.04, “no player in the first week of April saw the same card five times in a row in competitive queue”, with the percentage of players complaining about facing the same card. , fell to 0.06%. , or about one in 1,700 players. Cheng also says that this was achieved with “zero negative impact on latency or match balance” in Valorant Competitive, and the team is “relatively confident” that this deterministic map choice helps. Expect.
Valorant’s latest update is 4.10, which basically adds some changes to Omen, and could be part of a sneak peek for Valorant’s new map.
