A new stealth game has been announced that is a mix of Metal Gear Solid and Commandos with Pirates of the Caribbean. A release date for the hacked game Frigato: Shadows of the Caribbean has not yet been announced, but it will be playable next month during Steam Next Fest.
Frigato is a stealth tactical strategy game that resembles Commandos or Desperados III but with pirates, although it clearly has elements of Metal Gear Solid: there is a moment in the trailer (below) where the player sneaks into a barrel. It is very reminiscent of the famous Solid Snake boxing.
The game will ask players to take control of a small pirate crew and sneak through ships, ports, mystical islands, and “many other iconic locations.” As usual, the bad guys are the Brits, although there are various monsters and mythical creatures: the trailer shows a mermaid taking a bath, who appears to be some sort of boss character. While it doesn’t seem like players will be able to control their own ship, the Steam page promises RPG-like elements, like the ability to choose which captain you want to be: bloodier, more chivalrous, etc. etc.
You can check out the trailer below, and the game itself will get a playable demo during Steam Next Fest starting June 13.
It’s definitely a good year to be a pirate, because we’ve got a new Monkey Island game, a lot of work to do on Sea of Thieves, and maybe Skull & Bones already exists, but that’s not all. fiction for now.
