Destiny 2 Season 17 continues, and with it comes a brand new seasonal activity to earn juicy rewards, weapons, and XP for that all-important Power grind. Season of the Haunted’s activity is Nightmare Containment, a new public event that takes place in the abandoned Leviathan Patrol area. It has a less pronounced structure than the regular seasonal events, but we’ve got you covered with our Destiny 2 Nightmare Containment analysis.
This is a similar event to the Altar of Sorrows on the Moon, which makes sense considering the Abandoned Leviathan is anchored above the Lunar Patrol area. Calus’ damaged flagship returned to the solar system in Season of the Chosen, overrun by Egregore, the creeping vines seen on the Glykon earlier in the Presage mission.
The goal of the event is to attract the Nightmares plaguing Leviathan, then collect their essence and connect them to Eris Morn’s Nightmare Harvester. ours Destiny 2 Nightmare Storage guide, we’ll tell you exactly how to do it.
How to Start Destiny 2 Nightmare Containment
You might think it would be easy to start a public event like Destiny 2’s Nightmare Containment, but it attracts new and returning players alike.
Unlike the last seasonal events, you will not be connected directly to this event. Instead, you need to go to the Objectives screen and open the Moon. There you will see a large icon with two options for Castellum.
The best option, Castellum, tasks you with Leviathan to explore different areas in search of secrets. In the second option, Containment, you will find players currently working on Nightmare Containment. Amazingly, you can explore or participate in the event by choosing one of two options, and both will set your power level to where it should be.
Once Derelict is loaded into Leviathan, look for a red icon similar to the Altar of Sorrow event markers. This is a harvest point where you can place the Nightmare Harvester and activate the event.
How to complete Destiny 2 Nightmare Phase 1 and 2 Containment
Destiny 2’s Nightmare Containment is a layered challenge similar to the Vaulted Escalation Protocol event on Mars or the Altars mentioned above. Placing the harvester will pull enemies towards you based on their score, and all you have to do is shoot them down. Your objective here is to collect Dread Shards by killing enemies.
Standard enemies drop a piece, but tougher yellow-striped Dreadnoughts reward more. Similar to Nightmare Hunts, these enemies reduce Unstable Essence, increasing your damage against Nightmares. Each Dreadbringer also drops a Fear Core when they die, which you must drop into the Reaper. Each dunk will grant additional shards and also spawn a Scythe Reaper.
This is a powerful weapon with a relatively short timer that allows you to defeat large groups of Scorns, deal heavy fire damage, and earn your main reward currency, Vestiges of Dread.
When you collect enough Dreads, two Egregore Atavist enemies will spawn in the area. Their shields are immune to damage, but Guardians are not, so you can dodge them and head for the chops to get rid of them. They produce cabal detachments to protect themselves, but nothing poses a great threat. When they are ready, a mini-boss called Nightmare Ship will engage in battle. Almost a crispy layer to complete Layer 1.
You’ll then need to locate the Level 2 Harvester, but once you do, the process will be more or less the same. The big difference is that in stage 2 the boss is a harbinger of nightmares and will create an immunity shield twice during the fight. To break this, find and destroy the Resonant Splinters you’ve downed on Throne World over the past few months.
How to Destiny 2 Nightmare Level 3 Containment. Complete
After levels 1 and 2 are completed, level 3 begins in a more central part of the map. This week it’s The Nightmare of Elykris (one of the Forsaken campaign bosses). The Triumph page lists three bosses, so they will likely change weekly.
The fight is quite simple: Catch Elykris while she clears. The boss will create a shield with two-thirds and one-third health, and again you’ll need to destroy the shards. The hardest part of this fight is the amount of Screebs spawned, so watch out for sudden bursts of blue grime.
Killing Dreadbringers during this round will drop Dread Cores, allowing you to acquire another Reaper Reaper to increase your damage to the boss.
Destiny 2 Nightmare Limitation Rewards
When Elykris drops, you’ll receive a random world drop, but the best rewards will come from spending your relics or terror in the reaper behind the loot chest. It costs 500 each time, but is worth it as it grants higher tier seasonal loot.
You also have about a minute and a half to explore some parts of the ship that are closed. When the lockdown protocol triggers between containment events, you can find secret keys that hide additional loot chests. Look for green lights and listen to a tale to find them.
That’s it, that’s all you need to know to complete the new event. With all the information in this Destiny 2 Nightmare Containment guide and three of the best Destiny 2 weapons you have, you can beat Nightmares and reap instant rewards.
