Valve has released a new update to the Steam Deck, updating SteamOS to version 3.2 and introducing several new features to the gaming laptop. One of the additions that caused a stir is a new fix for the device’s noisy fans.

East Steam Bridge Update features a new fan curve that Valve says should “improve performance in low-usage scenarios” as well as “tune fan response to different scenarios and temperatures.” However, anyone who wants to put cooling efficiency above noise levels can select the former fan profile via a toggle in system settings.

Another notable feature contained in this Steam Deck update is the ability to change the refresh rate of the game display within the range of 40-60 Hz for each game. According to Valve, this should help users find “the perfect balance between frame rate and game quality.” and battery life”, and the manufacturer recommends 40 Hz as “the best point for responsiveness, consistency and smoothness”.

While Remote Play was not part of the SteamOS 3.2 update, it is finally fully functional on the Steam Deck. This should make it easier to play remotely with friends when the game doesn’t natively support online multiplayer.

All of the new features and changes in this Steam Deck update can be found here, including various bug fixes and quality of life improvements.
