Good news for Team Fortress 2 fans, especially those involved in the recent #SaveTF2 campaign, a “peaceful protest” meant to remind Valve that many gamers still love and adore their FPS game despite longstanding issues with the bots in TF2. . Valve has now officially acknowledged the problem, or at least felt excited enough to pull the password for TF2’s official Twitter account out of a desk drawer and post it for the first time in almost two years.
“TF2 community, we hear you! We love this game and we know you will too. We see how serious this problem has become and we are working to improve it. these are the words Posted on the Team Fortress Twitter account: It may be a small gesture of thanks, but it will go a long way for some fans who think Valve has been too quiet about recent issues with the free-to-play game.
By far the most talked about issue in the game is bots, and ever since TF2’s source code was leaked in 2020, the game has been plagued by a plague of aimbots. It currently ranks seventh in the Steam Player charts at the time of writing) it deserves regular updates which have been virtually non-existent in recent years.
A member of the FUNke community shared a video titled “I miss Team Fortress 2” explaining why they are sad about the updates dropping. Another TF2 creator, WeezyTF2, posted a video on May 26 encouraging fans to tweet using the hashtag #SaveTF2.
Fans responded in droveswith current and former players share some of your stories about what the game means to them. Wheezy said of the campaign, “If it doesn’t work, at least the writing on the wall is paved for all to see.”
It will be interesting to see where things go next. A statement is one thing, but actual action can take time. Reddit users who responded to Valve’s tweet are skeptical, with statements like “my hopes are neither high nor low” and “prepare to be completely stunned” suggesting they’re not expecting too much.
However, it is a step in the right direction. Perhaps the extra attention will lead to a new TF2 player record a year after his last break.
