The player manages to fly in Terraria in a new way before the hard mode.

Terraria players looking to navigate the indie game map quickly and safely often turn to a pair of wings or one of Terraria’s many flying mounts. Normally, Terraria’s flight options up to hard mode are extremely limited, but one player has found a fun way to traverse the world without the need for special gear.

Nearly all instances of Terraria’s flying wings and mounts are limited to the “Hard Mode” of the survival game. This requires you to progress far enough and then defeat one of Terraria’s main bosses to change the state of the world to a second, more difficult form. While players can use Goblin Master’s Rocket Boots for a short time on Hard Mode, one particularly resourceful person has come up with a new alternative.

Reddit user CautiousIce5411 shared a clip (credited to a friend) of the player character diligently building a network of platforms (usually used to aid in boss encounters) as they approach Balloon Slime. When a slime hits a player, a slight kickback sends them back on a perfect trajectory to repeatedly bounce off the slime’s… back (do slimes have backs?), causing them to juggle them in the air. .

If you want to use this method yourself, keep in mind that it requires quite specific conditions. The Wind Balloon was introduced in Terraria 1.4 and is a harmless enemy that will carefully transport slime across the sky. It will burst if the player hits it or gets too close to it, so they must “ride” the slime at the perfect angle so as not to burst the balloon carrying it.

As Terraria QA Specialist Lanforce points out, dodging enemies multiple times isn’t a particularly safe method, as most enemies will kill the player in just a few hits. Fortunately, in this case, the player had enough armor that the low-threat slime only dealt one bounce damage. The injury noises are quite distracting, but as commentator Marbles_TSD points out, it’s “a small price to pay for stealing from HM.”
