The PlayStation 5 is an undeniably powerful console that can keep up with many gaming PCs, but the PS5 Pro can push performance even further. In fact, it looks like Sony is planning a mid-gen upgrade in the next couple of years with a more powerful RDNA 3 AMD Radeon RX 7000 GPU.

During a presentation from TV maker TCL, the company seemingly missed out on what appear to be PS5 Pro specs and a potential release date for the mid-gen console’s upgrade (via PPE). The company claims that we could see a PlayStation 5 equipped with a GPU similar to the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT in 2023/2024.

TCL also says that the PS5 Pro will support 8K output, which the existing PlayStation 5 with the HDMI 2.1 feature set should also be capable of. However, Sony has yet to provide resolution support via console firmware (despite the presence of 8K branding on the device’s retail packaging).

Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on whether the PlayStation 5’s processor will receive an upgrade, as the console’s Zen 2 processor already lags behind the current Zen 3+ offerings and the purported Zen 4 chips.

While this information comes from a company that makes some of the best TVs out there, it’s best to take it with a healthy dose of salt until Sony explicitly confirms the existence of the PS5 Pro.
