From the Swedish creators of the Battlerite and Battlerite Royale battle arenas, which have not caught on for a long time after the initial wave of enthusiasm among the players, comes the new game V Rising. This is a vampire themed survival game that builds on previous games and adds a lot.

Everyone will find something for themselves
In terms of how you can play Rising, the game is really diverse. You can play alone as a lone wolf. However, I personally think that the solo game should be repeated relatively quickly. After all, only two or a group of up to 4 vampires can do it better. Extensive PvE content is complemented by the ability to play on a PvP server and conquer other players and clans. Unfortunately, PvP doesn’t bring you anything yet other than the pleasant feeling that you have the ability to make other players’ lives uncomfortable and possibly get the contents of their inventory. Personally, I’ve diversified my PvP game, but I wouldn’t recommend a PvP server unless you can live with the fact that you die and lose your inventory from time to time.
Like a “proper” vampire
As is common in survival games, in Rising you mine the raw materials from which you create weapons and equipment, as well as build your base – in this case, a castle. But you also intimidate mortals—whether you convert them into your ranks as servants, imprison them for a later snack, or simply plunder their settlements to rob them of horses and raw materials.
You are a vampire and your food is blood, which you must drink more or less regularly. There are several types, and each of them gives you different bonuses depending on their type and percentage quality. The more interest you have, the more bonuses for you. (e.g. Worker improves your loot, Warrior, Rogue and Brute will help you mostly in melee and weapons, and Scientist will boost your spell power). Thus, the game gives you the opportunity to choose which bonus you want to use. If you don’t care and it’s all about survival, all you have to do is drink something or someone.
What I think is really successful is the alternation of day and night. As a result, the game will drag you in and you will feel like a real vampire, because you will directly hate the sunlight, which literally burns. During the day you will make your way through the shadows of trees and buildings, at night you will hunt and look for a fight. Of course, there is also a weakness for garlic and all saints, which together makes for a good combination and a definitely fun mix for me, in which I basically don’t miss anything.
Gotta kill them all
Your “goal” in V Rising is to gradually destroy all the bosses, just like in Valheim. Each of the defeated bosses will open something new for you – recipes, vampire skills and spells. Spells are one of the mechanics that the developers partially transferred from Battlerite. Those of you who have played Battlerite are familiar with many spells.
I don’t think it matters, because the whole combat system is based on so-called “skillshots” – spells and abilities that need to be well aimed, as well as dodging and blocking.
This makes interesting not only the boss, but also PvP. In both cases, your ability to avoid enemy attacks and target your own can help you defeat even “paper” stronger opponents.
It’s also nice to have a rule that bosses scale based on the number of players trying to subdue them. As such, a small strike group may have less trouble defeating a particular boss than a large group. Personally, I really welcome this, because it accurately reflects that you have the choice to play alone or in a group. No matter what you decide, you will always have a task ahead of you.
The technical side of things
The game is in early access, but in more than 30 hours of playing I have not encountered a single bug or problem. One also has a voice chat. The sound is audible and you can even determine which side the sound is coming from, which of course is not available in all games with this feature. On an equally positive note is the fact that there are no lag issues during gameplay depending on how many buildings and otherwise player-generated content there are.
Finally
The Survival genre is definitely not for everyone, but if you like games like Velheim or Rust, I can’t recommend V Rising enough. The question is what else the developers will offer us, because the game has huge potential. Personally, I still miss something like late game content after defeating all the bosses. At the same time, building and loot deserve a bit of attention because from a PvP standpoint, they need to be balanced.
