After a tough day of MSI 2022 Rumble Stage gameplay, PSG Talon came out with a very respectable 1-1 record. However, the PCS representative still has a long way to go to repeat the heights he achieved in last year’s tournament.
The first game of the day got off to a great start against Vietnam’s Saigon Buffalo and almost fell apart approaching the midpoint. However, the crew managed to right the ship before it sank and took the first step towards the knockout stage. Unfortunately, PSG had to deal with a T1 side who were hurt deeply by G2 Esports later in the day and wiped out by the LCK Invincibles.
Following PSG’s day of mixed results, The Loadout spoke to botlaner Wong ‘Unified’ Chun Kit about the games, his return to the international stage after a disappointing 2021 Worlds campaign and his current thoughts on the 2v2 competition.
United so nice to talk to you again! I want to start by getting your thoughts on how the games are going today – what went well and what you think you can do better as we move forward tomorrow.
“I think today’s games lived up to our expectations as we focused more on winning against Saigon Buffalo, but we still made a lot of mistakes in the middle of the game. Luckily, we managed to getting out of it and the win really boosted our confidence, but we have a lot of adjustments and improvements that we really need to make as a team.
On a higher note, I will personally outdo myself in judging my own performance. [in that game]†
I’m sure you played very well today. It’s great to see you back at an international event after I remember what you told me was a disappointing end to Worlds. Do you think making money here at MSI places an extra responsibility on yourself and PSG?
“Yes, I think I should perform very well at this MSI. It’s my first time at an MSI and a lot of people are watching so it’s a great platform for me to introduce myself to everyone. But to give you a really good performance, I have to make more adjustments and try to do my best in every game. †
Considering the other bottom laners remaining during the tournament, I want to know who you think has performed well and who isn’t showing their full potential so far.
“I think the bot lane that worked really really well came from RNG and they put a lot of pressure on us. [when we play]† I think T1 bot lane didn’t work very well [today] because they usually get caught and their KDA isn’t that good – I feel like they’re not as dominant as they usually are in the LCK. They might be super, super strong, but so far they haven’t reached that level of performance on the MSI stage. Maybe they’re nervous.
the covers shone so bright on the stage and made many great plays
G2 bot lane did much better against T1 and RNG than many expected. From what you’ve seen, does this surprise you – on fine fabrics or not?
“I don’t really have any comment on the performance of the bottom laner G2 today. Rasmus ‘hat’ Winther shone a lot on the podium and made a lot of great plays, so it’s hard for me to comment in bot lane because of him.
You join your team. This time, PSG brought in Lee ‘Juhan’ Ju-han and Park ‘Mr.’ Jun-byeong on the international stage. How has the team changed compared to last year?
“Our new players are still rookies – quite young and have less experience. Therefore, unlike Huang ‘Maple’ Yi-Tang, they sometimes play a little nervous on stage and have less understanding of the meta. something that they will develop.
Last question: With the future in mind, patch 12.10 will increase the stamina of league champions. What do you think of 12.10 and what does it mean for botlanks?
“So I’m not very familiar with the patch, but I feel like some of the late game AD champions like Aphelios and Jinx might be back on the scene because survivability is absolutely essential for those champions.”
