F1 22 will have no story mode: Codemasters justifies its absence and talks about crossplay
The Formula 1 racing video game will be in stores for PC, PlayStation and Xbox on July 1.
In just over a month, F1 22, PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | It’s coming for the S and Xbox One, and will mark the start of a new era in Formula 1 racing video games. One notable omission in this first edition of this new phase, however, is the story mode that launched with some success with F1 2021 last year. Codemasters talked about its possible comeback and other production details.
“We’ve had great success with Braking Point in F1 2021 with both new players and veterans alike, and we’re committed to that feature,” Series Director Lee Mather said in an interview with GamingBolt. “However, it is not part of our immediate plans due to the development cycles we have biennially in our in-house teams. be sure to come back in the future“.
This year video game users will instead find Vida F1, a new space to unlock and showcase supercars, outfits, accessories and much more.
Virtual reality, also on PS VR?
Another of the innovations confirmed for the F1 22 is the support of virtual reality devices on the PC. Mather points out that an option that fans have been requesting for years will allow the player. Experience a new level of immersion in the series. “You will be amazed by the magnificent details inside. cockpit and really feel the scale and elevation changes of the environment,” says the director.

What about PlayStation VR players? “Unfortunately, there are no short-term plans, but never say never,” Mather replies to Gamingbolt.
Cross-platform play in F1 22
An interview with the director of the series also revealed Codemasters’ plans for cross-platform gameplay. In this sense, he accepted was part of their goal for the launch, but they will have to add it in a future update due to circumstances beyond their control. Cross-generational gaming will be available among users of the same console family.
Finally, Mather hopes F1 22 can be rendered at 4K and 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. We’ll see this on PC, PlayStation and Xbox starting July 1st. Recall that the video game can only be updated via Champions Edition to PS5 and Xbox Series for free, and in stores for a price of 90 euros.
