Speculation about new games in the Silent Hill series continues, and it’s no surprise that some editors have already requested the official statement from the studio, which is mentioned most often. This is the Polish team Bloober Team, whose representative at the Digital Dragons event spoke to Gamebyte magazine.
“I don’t understand why people don’t know we do Pro Evolution Soccer. He always thinks we should do Silent Hill or something.” joked lead producer Jacek Zeba. Lead designer Wojciech Pejko then added that these assumptions could not be commented on.
IGN, who was able to speak with Peter Babien, CEO of the Bloober Team, also asked for a statement.
“We cannot comment on this, because, of course, we respect our partners. So we can’t say anything. We will announce our future projects as soon as we can. So you know a lot more. Officially.”
The conversation was to further include that The Bloober team is currently working on three projects: one released by Konami, another by a private division (presumably a new IP), and a third project to be created which is in pre-production.. We don’t yet know how this new game in the Layers of Fear series, which the studio announced last year for release this year, fits into all of this. We haven’t got any details yet.
Babieno also said that it is difficult to work with someone who has a brand license. And it seems like it doesn’t make sense for Bloober to make a game like this if they don’t have enough creative freedom. “You can’t fly when you’re in jail. That’s why we’re trying to make games where we feel, “OK, this is a Bloober Team game” and not someone else. So even a project that we can’t talk about will still be the name of the Bloober Team.”
Finally, the head of the studio adds that upcoming games will be bigger than previous ones.
“There are a lot of people on our teams who would like to make bigger games, with more gameplay, with some game mechanics, because most of our previous games were like that, right?” It was more about the mood, the plot, and not really the gameplay. We would like to make games that tell a story based on game mechanics. So you can expect that each of our future games will have more game mechanics. These titles will be bigger.”
“It’s not a big jump.” says Babieno on behalf of the transition from so-called “walking simulators” to something more complex. “But right now we are well equipped to make games like hellblade. But I would say that we still have DNA – games that are still part of the Bloober Team legacy and will be bigger. We will be telling stories through gameplay, and in the future it won’t be a walking simulator style experience, but the theme, the feeling will remain.”
Bloober Team is still talked about as the studio that is reportedly working on a remake of Silent Hill 2. They officially partnered with Konami last year, and without rebuttal in interviews, this option seems increasingly likely.
