OWL Coach releases list of expected changes for Overwatch 2

There’s still no official word on when Overwatch 2 will finally emerge from the dark recesses of Blizzard’s underground vault, but we do know it will bring some significant gameplay changes when it does. But a tweet from a professional Overwatch League coach could be the key to the changes to come when Game 2 finally sees the light of day.

Jordan ‘Gunba’ Graham, head coach of the OWL Florida Mayhem team, tweeted A Google Docs link appears and says, “If anyone is interested in the workshop OWL teams use to prepare for OW2, here’s a link to the code and patch notes.” Essentially, these changes are what OWL teams would use instead of a working version of Overwatch 2.

The most drastic changes are the disabling of 2CP – something players have been complaining about for a long time, as it’s nearly impossible to move the defending team to the last capture point unless you’re playing at a high skill level – and the respawn time has been reduced by 20. % makes the game much faster. There also seems to be a provision for hero bans which can only shake players who play a hero.

There are also adjustments in the lessons in general. All tank heroes now receive less knockback and give 25% less ult charges to the enemy when attacked; meaning the tanks can act like the huge giants they were always meant to be. The support class has passive healing that regenerates at a rate of 10 HP per second when idle for three seconds, allowing them to stay in combat longer and eliminating the need for team members to heal themselves each other. Finally, DPS characters will see an overall 8% buff to movement speed to enhance their glass ball character.

Some heroes see profound changes in topics that have long been talked about by the community. Ana had a nerf where bomb damage was reduced and dormant arrow cooldown increased. Reinhardt has been reworked so that he can now equip two Firestrikes and his attack can be better controlled or canceled completely. And D.Va’s matrix has been improved, shot spread has been reduced, and movement penalty has been reduced when firing. These are just some of the notable changes described in the document.

There are a few more “speculative” changes currently underway in this workshop mode. These are unconfirmed changes that are expected to continue for Overwatch 2 based on developer feedback and Reddit AMAs.

If these changes used by OWL players finally come to Overwatch 2, we can expect a very different game. This will double class roles and define them better. It will be smoother to play. And maybe that will eventually lead to the demise of 2CP.

The Overwatch 2 beta is right around the corner, so we might be able to play the new Overwatch sooner rather than later.
