We were 6

Get rid of one friend, because in Overwatch 2 you will only play in a 5v5 team instead of the original 6v6 format. The transition as such is still difficult for me. I thought one of the ideas behind this change was to buff all the tank characters and focus the fight around them. On the contrary, Blizzard’s justification for the changes is that they want every role to have the same chance and that the tanks are more aggressive. In this case, I would be grateful if the command format was not prescribed – i.e. 1x tank, 2x dps and 2x support.

This seems like a limitation to me, especially if it’s an attempt to eliminate significant differences between roles. In any case, we’ll see what the next planned changes will bring, like the promised support for reworking heroes and adding other new ones.

Hero changes and one new addition

Several old familiar characters have survived, and some are still waiting. Beloved, hated by all, Bastion has undergone relatively large changes. If this hero made you white in the original Overwatch, then you have something to look forward to in his new rendition. The all-new ability, Artillery, with which Bastion can drop 3 bombs on you from almost anywhere on the map, is really fun for the sender and frustrating for the receiver. Orisa has also undergone significant changes. The original tank “I stand still behind my shield and nothing moves with me” has become a relatively aggressive heroine with a lot of dps potential. I personally welcome the Oris change, but at the moment it seems to be much stronger than the other dances. Doomfist, which had slightly clipped wings in the sense that you fly more horizontally than vertically, has also undergone a change. He has been moved to the tank section, which should be helped by the Power Block ability, as well as the passive shield gained from the damage dealt.

A newly introduced character is Sojorn as a DPS. The cybernetic shooter will please you as much as it did me if you love to hit. Her weapon, the railgun, has two firing modes. The main automatic weapon is charged with energy when it hits the enemy, and you can fire it with one accurate and deadly blow. You will also have a special shot at hand – a rather energetic grenade that will injure enemies in a radius around you. Thanks to his cybernetic amplifiers, Sujurn is very mobile and literally glides across the battlefield.

scoreboard

Changing the display system of the “player score”, where in the original OW each player has his own small statistics, represented by both cost (damage inflicted on the enemy, time spent on the lens, etc.) and medals (bronze, silver, gold) in depending on how he works in your team. From this system, which I personally like, Blizzard is moving away and in beta moves to the classic “tabletop” system and KDA (kills / deaths / assists) – respectively EDA (eliminations / deaths / assists). Personally, I had a problem with orientation in the new table. It may be a habit, but at first glance I’m baffled, and at the same time it doesn’t offer the same as the glittering gold medals that caress my vanity if my team loses. On the contrary, the advantage of the new scoreboard for me is an overview of the readiness of the ultimate skills of teammates, which can greatly facilitate the coordination of the entire team.

New cards

The PVP Beta offers us 4 new maps so far, and Blizzard promises more. New cards:

  • Royal Route (Monte Carlo)
  • Colosseum (Rome)
  • New Queen Street (Toronto)
  • Midtown (New York)

Colosseo and New Queen Street are the first two maps to feature the new “Push” mode, which is a combination of the original “Control” and “Escort” where you try to control a moving dot (robot) on the map. and push it either towards its destination or at least further away from your enemy. This game mode is quite dynamic and lively. You have to watch your back as you keep moving. They’re purpose-built for the new game mode, so they’re full of treacherous alleys or nooks and crannies, perfect for taking the enemy by surprise in the rear or fighting from a convenient angle.

All maps are well-designed and bring a long-awaited novelty to OW. The only thing I would like to point out is the lack of clarity on one of the new maps. I understand and appreciate Blizzard’s efforts to make the maps “live” and in this case as faithful references to real cities, but Midtown is too overpriced for me with signs and decorative nonsense, which certainly do not add clarity to such hectic battles. .

Finally

In addition to the news and PVP event presented, Blizzard in Overwatch 2 also promises us a proper PVE event. But we will definitely wait a while. In any case, I perceive the closed beta testing as a whole positively and sincerely hope that the corrections and news will continue in this positive trend.
