Apex Legends Storm Point IMC Armory feature is 3rd party proof

If you’ve played Apex Legends or any battle royale game for that matter, you know how painful it can be to be a “third party” in a shootout. There’s nothing worse than being about to win and getting shot in the back by an unseen assailant. Apex Legends gives you ways to combat this – Gibby’s Dome Shield is a particularly useful tool – but it’s largely a fact of life that you’ll eventually become a third party at some point. Until now. Respawn Entertainment Senior Game Designer Samantha Kalman revealed in a press interview that the IMC Armory locations in Storm Point will actually be third-party proof.

We know it’s hard to believe, but it’s true. When you go to loot one of the four IMC Armory sites at Storm Point, you’re “protected from third parties,” Kalman said. However, this comes at a cost – as you’d expect.

Players looking to loot these locations will have to lock themselves in and endure an intense, minute-long close-range storm with waves of Deathwraiths, the automated infantry robots you might recognize from Titanfall.

But if you survive this attack, the loot you can get is worth it. Respawn Entertainment is introducing smart loot boxes for Apex Legends in Season 13 through these select locations. These loot boxes effectively “analyze” your gear, ensuring that whatever you get out of it is better than what you have. This definitely makes these locations popular at all stages of the game – if the loot can only get better, there’s always a reason to check it out.

What makes these places really interesting is that they were born out of gameplay innovations, not narrative explorations.

Narratively speaking, the IMC arsenal at Storm Point was “built as automated combat support structures filled with valuable cargo,” Kalman explains during the Border War. We don’t know why, but they didn’t act at the time – so they sat idle until they were activated by the strange beastly sea creature we saw in the Launching trailer. of the Saviors.

As relevant as this story is, it doesn’t seem to be the driving force behind this feature. Discussing this, Kalman states: The development team “really wanted to have a nice PvE feature protected from third parties… So, [it] Everything is built on this concept.

We don’t know how popular this new Storm Point map feature will be or how difficult Specters will be, but Apex Legends once again offers something new that Battle Royale players will appreciate, and it’s hard to argue. with that.
