Adibou is an educational game released on DOS in the early 90s before having a huge success with Adibou 2 in 1996. Years later, Wiloki and Ubisoft present a remaster adapted to the next generation of mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) .

Adibu is back! 30 years after the original game, find Adibou and its educational games on smartphones and tablets under Android or iOS (iPhone, iPad). Adibou is a paying game.

We challenged Léa (5 years old, big game) and Jade (soon to be 8 years old, CE2) to find out their reactions to this new game. Interview in the next article.

Installation and treatment

As with all Android/iOS applications, installation is relatively simple, you only need to pay 9.99 euros using the registered payment method to install the application on as many account terminals as you wish.

Despite in-app purchases and a lack of parental control options in app stores, you might not be happy connecting the payment method to a device designed for kids.

There is a simple trick in Android to avoid this scenario:

It’s actually a somewhat grueling maneuver that takes five minutes, but guarantees a certain calm.

After starting the application, all you need to do is choose a level from the three offered and enter a password and a nickname. This nickname combined with a tribe name allows your child to update their progress on another device. It’s a welcome feature in an age where multimedia is not limited to a living room computer.

After entering the information, we find all the elements of Adibou 2 in its 3D version produced with modern tools. Parents playing the game won’t be out of place, and for kids, Adibou takes the time to send every element of the clicker to the youngest player.

The child learns to navigate the application very quickly, but it is always desirable that the little ones spend time with them.

Rich and adapted content

This fun application uses Adibou 2 codes in events updated according to varied and adapted themes. This is why we find the classic subjects: French, maths and science (there are 3) in the activities specific to children. The first level allows the child to understand what is expected of him, the second obliges him to act on what has been learned, and the third aims to push him a little.

It is clear that he has not forgotten the fun part of the application, it offers the child to harvest vegetables and flowers to produce the food needed in the kitchen to develop recipes. There are also videos, songs, stories, and games that train a child with a variety of skills such as snatching skills or classic memory skills.

Don’t forget that Adibou regularly reminds our loved ones to relax and get away from screens a bit (which they might not have done without parental intervention).

From a parent’s perspective

The kids are thrilled with the Adibu experience this weekend, but what about the parents? Here is a brief overview of the strengths and weaknesses of this restructuring and areas for improvement.

What we liked:

Our least favourites:

So install?

Adibou is faithful to the image we have. A colorful, friendly and educational game. With up-to-date programs, children are fully connected to the subject and learn while having fun. The title remains excellent, but the copied copy is of very good quality.

But watch out for the little thugs who secretly use the device to dive into the world of a little character with pointy ears and the famous red hat. If there is evidence of concern for this issue, parents should take steps to limit exposure time.
