The Witcher: CD Projekt explains why they picked Unreal Engine 5 for their next game

In a video posted on Twitter, its new director, Jason Slama, said: witchexplained the reasons CD Projekt RED either decided Use Unreal Engine 5 For the next game in the series instead of REDengine, one of them is the increased flexibility offered by the Epic Games graphics engine.

Slama explains that one of the advantages of using Unreal Engine 5 is significant optimization work from Epic Games, which is useful in making an open world game where the things that can go wrong are “exponentially higher”.

“Players can go anywhere in the open world. They can, in theory, manage content in whatever order they want. To really allow that, you need a really stable environment where you can make changes with a high level of security. In the meantime, without breaking another 1,600 things,” he said.

Jakub Knapik, CD Projekt’s VFX and lighting art director, described the Unreal Engine as “a toolbox with many features and many solutions already available, allowing teams to simply try new things.” The fact that Unreal is used. This means that many perspectives are reflected in team design, which helps make development more agile.”

Jason Lama also gave a little insight into how he became interested in Unreal Engine 5. A demo presented last year showed a devastated village, similar in some respects to that seen in Velen of The Witcher. To get the game director’s attention in particular, there was a sign seen in the demo that read “monster hunter wanted”, which almost seemed to refer to the Witcher.

Continuing on the topic, the Netflix series The Witcher season 3 has just begun filming, here are the first photos from the set and a summary of the plot.
