Criticisms against Game Awards 2022 they go on, and one of the many debates is that, Hand Ring It is among the nominees for Best narrative component. now, however, Cory Barlog without directly naming Elden Ring, but explicitly referring to it, has a say in the matter.

Knowing how to write on the Internet and social networks, Barlog never quotes Elden Ring directly, but through twitter He shares his thoughts on the subject in a series of highly revealing sentences.

“Narrative/story means a lot in video games. The way and frequency of presentation varies in all video games. Due to the nature of video games, I feel there is a story/narrative in ALL games; Even though it presents itself in an unusual way, the games take us all on a unique and exciting journey.”

More directly, he ends his tweet thread with the words: “Basically, I think all games should be played. get a nomination for the story and the storytelling somehow, because inside everyone there is something that is somehow unique and completely unique to the world of video games.”

While never quoting Elden Ring, the timing of these statements makes it clear that this is the real issue. Hand RingLike Miyazaki’s other plays, it offers a deep and structured narrative component, but it does so in an alternative way, without cinematic cutscenes, without compelling dialogue that neatly presents the plot.

Hand Ring suggests multiple parts of a large world, and it’s up to the player to find and combine them to understand the big picture. In some Miyazaki games the plot is a little more direct and clear, while in others there are more obscure points that allow the player to use a bit of imagination to create their own story. You may or may not like the method (neither opinion is wrong), but in practice even this type of game tells a story.

What do you think?

Hollow Knight Silksong fans, who continue to talk about the reviews at The Game Awards 2022, are not happy with the absence of the game.
