I await rigorous analysis from Digital Foundry and other tech geeks. Sonic FrontiersGameXPlain YouTube channel published a post video which versions compare PS5 and Nintendo Switch from the new adventure of the blue hedgehog.
Looking at the images, it’s clear that there are significant differences between the Switch and PS5 versions. On the Nintendo console, Sonic Frontiers has a locked frame rate of 30fps and the resulting dynamic resolution. up to 720p in both portable and docked modes. On the contrary, on the PS5, 60fps is achievable with 1080p resolution in performance mode, certainly notable in a speed-based game like this case. Not only that, on the Switch the textures are of lower quality and the pop-in issue (also reported in our Sonic Frontiers review) seems more pronounced.
That said, Sonic Frontiers’ Switch port looks good overall, considering the console’s hardware. Also, being able to play on the go is a key advantage that could make this version the most attractive to many users. However, we are still far from the words of producer Takashi Iizuka, who stated in an interview that the Switch version of Sonic Frontiers is comparable to the PC version.
