Square Enix announced Final Fantasy 14 reached the height 27 million users An outstanding result that has been recorded all over the world, especially given the MMO’s bad start before Naoki Yoshida took the reins of the project, almost starting from scratch.
It was the game’s producer who broke the news during the “Letter from the Producer LXXIII” live stream. It is not clear whether the data includes only users who purchased the game and subscribed to at least one monthly subscription, or only those who signed up for the servers. In the latter case, the data is partially “inflated” due to the rich free trial version of the game.
In any case, these are more than perfect numbers. The first incarnation of Final Fantasy 14, released in 2010, was a complete disaster, including poor optimization, unstable network code, and bugs galore. The initial failure convinced Square Enix to replace most of the development team and entrust the reins of the game to Yaoki Yoshida, who boldly decided to create a new version of the game in parallel while supporting the old one. The result was the launch of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn in 2014, followed by numerous successful expansions that resulted in the game becoming the global hit we know today.
During the livestream, Square Enix also confirmed that it will host a series of competitions. Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in 2023 and 2024. The first one will be held on 28 and 29 July 2023 in Las Vegas, United States; the second in London on 21 and 22 October; The third appointment will be in Japan throughout 2024, and dates and details have yet to be announced.
