While the Japanese manufacturer provided us with some gameplay videos for PS VR2 at the end of June (a summary of which is available in our dedicated PS5 article), Sony is presenting a few elements of the user experience today. .
The discovery of the object was still necessary if its design and characteristics had been known for some time. In a blog post, Sony reveals some very practical features.
continuous mode

A feature that looks anecdotal but will make life easier for gamers. Indeed, after putting on the helmet, the player had to hold his controller against the risk of hitting a coffee table or any other piece of furniture.
At the touch of a button on the earcup (or from the menu if you’re holding the controls and looking for a bottle of water), the display shows your surroundings thanks to the built-in cameras. Note that this is a view-only mode and cannot be saved.
Space limitation

From this same menu, it will also be possible to limit (almost) the space reserved for your game session. This function creates a virtual wall and warns you if you get too close to the limit.
Once set, the zone is saved but can be changed at any time (as long as the PS VR2 headset is connected).
Broadcast player reactions

While streaming, many viewers like to experience the reactions of the player live. Answers can be greatly enhanced with a VR experience (hello Resident Evil). Watching a player struggle during the high voltage phase can lead to some hilarious situations.
To accomplish this, Sony has added a streaming feature to PS VR2 that allows the player to film with the PS5 HD camera connected to the console.
2 game modes
VR mode offers the player a 360° environment. Video will be displayed in 4000 x 2040 HDR (2000 x 2040 per eye) with a refresh rate of 90-120Hz.
In Cinema mode, the headphones replace the traditional display and allow you to enjoy classic content with HDR resolution of 1920 x 1080, frame rates of 24/60 Hz (eg movies and videos) at 120 Hz.
Developers should soon get a new version of headset firmware with these features to integrate them. Sony has yet to announce a launch date, but should be contacted “soon” about it.
