“The reason we haven’t announced how many episodes until now was because we were thinking about whether this would be a trilogy or a two-part series,” Nomura told Famitsu (translated by VGC).
“I was originally thinking of a trilogy, but Kitase suggested exploring the possibility of making a two-part series.”
Kitase added, “It’s one of many ideas we’ve been considering. At the start of development for Final Fantasy VII Remake, it was difficult to predict how many people and hours of work and what development cycle would be required, but when things became clear (in Part 1), we’re done. To be honest I thought it might be an option to reach the end in the next game.”
Nomura later told fans about the remake project. will not be expanded any further and in his view, a trilogy is enough to tell the whole story of Final Fantasy 7.
“There are no plans to create more than three games,” Nomura said. “Since Final Fantasy VII Remake tells the story all the way down to the escape from Midgar, it’s hard to include the rest of the original content in the remaining two chapters, so some people might be worried that something was missed. It sure won’t be just a summary of the original.”
