Netflix releases portfolio for gaming deals

It’s no secret that after video streaming, Netflix wants to become a major player in the gaming world. Previously, the platform called on external partners to complete its catalog. Netflix Games does offer a few free games for subscribers with no ads or in-app purchases.

Among the games on offer are games based on the Stranger Things series developed by Texas-based company BonusXP. The streaming giant licensed Asphalt Xtreme exclusively to its subscribers.

Develop games at home

It is quite rare for Netflix to make acquisitions, but to deal with the capture strategy used by Microsoft and Sony, the SVOD platform is laying the foundations for its own in-house development.

Following the acquisition of Night School Studio, Netflix is now moving on to the following games. The Finnish developer is behind Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales and has several mobile games based on the Walking Dead series in its catalog.

With an offer of €65 million, Netflix’s offer received positive approval from Next Games’ board of directors, which advised shareholders to accept the offer. In the absence of unforeseen returns, this offer, which is equivalent to 2.10 euros per share (although currently around 1 euro), should lead to a transaction which is expected to be finalized in the second quarter of this year.
