Goals come from Sweden, a new competitor to EA

The name should be a guarantee (hopefully!): Andreas ThorstenssonThe 43-year-old Swedish former high medalist Counter-Strike (team SK Gaming) professional player has decided to challenge no less than EA and Konami on their favorite floor i.e. football.

After months of silence that was announced with much fanfare last summer, Goals magically reappeared a few days ago in a new trailer, which you can see below. No, this is not a remake of the old Goal! It is programmed by a particular Dino Dini, but has a free game title designed for multiplayer (esports in primis) and crossplay. No “gaillo card”, no “angalo kick”, but a “play to win” model complete with blockchain and NFT (Fungible Token) to reward the most talented players and encourage the purchase and sale of digital assets.

On paper it is a triple A build emblazoned with a crossplay system that should guarantee a better online gaming experience than various FIFA and eFootballs. The goal of Goals is to differentiate themselves from the football titles of this generation by offering different game mechanics and a new way to experience fantasy football. In short, the project announced by Thorstensson promises to be ambitious (not even FIFA has cross-play …) and the risk of punching a sensational hole in the water is just around the corner.

After a series of exaggerated explanations and many good words, the first Goals gameplay footage has arrived. A cinematic trailer that feeds doubts rather than dispels them. In the words of the legendary Segrate mage, we were truly “surprised and baffled…”

But we will talk about it Dedicated to goals.

Game to discover

Goals

Let’s take a look at the posted video: no trace of the game. As former champion Thorstensson wrote on his Twitter profile, the game will be presented in another video soon. First of all, several football fields are shown (okay, it’s a football simulation and we guessed it!) from suburban fields to more modern facilities.

Question: Will we play in any stadium on the planet? we will have our own private factory like NFT? Amidst the skyscrapers and inside the subway cars of the future metropolis, some cryptic messages more or less appear on a series of smart billboards: “Changing the Game”, “Future of Football”, “Taking the next level”. goals “,” Game changing “.

What we can safely label as a simple advertising move hides something even more ambitious: a game that aims to revolutionize the football simulations ever released. We’ve been waiting for years as multiplayer.reliable alternative A promise that could break the EA-Konami duo but also not easy to keep, with all the optimism we can have: words, words, and words…

Goals

The trailer in computer graphics is not bad at all, besides the chosen piece of music: suddenly the camera moves and zooms into a window, from which a football player is visible from the gray skyscrapers (with the inscription “Training Suit” on the shirt) busy inside to run on a futuristic treadmill surrounded by multiple computers that meticulously analyze his performance. And finally the ball appears with a series of players engaged in some kind of glass cage (not invented by Mr. Orrico…) to dominate the ball, ride an exercise bike, and pull it towards a virtual door.

Then they are thrown onto a real football field. train. Another legitimate question at this point is: What role will training play in the gaming experience proposed by Goals? A simple trick to exploit NFTs? Are there any FUT-style upgrades? Will there be a men’s and women’s championship?

Goals

Generally computer images it impressed us positively: we don’t know anything about the game engine (Unreal Engine 5?) but the animations and the faces of the players felt realistic to us. As for the possible launch window (it’s impossible to predict a release date at the moment), we’re talking about a project that should – to be optimistic – see the light in a few years. It remains only to wait for the next trailer and some more detailed information.

It’s hard to analyze and judge this kind of trailer: Nothing was seen from the football being played. The development team has put together a fascinating but overly generic film. Training phases and methodologies seem to play a leading role in the project, possibly to tap into the potential of the NFTs discussed. We are still in the early stages of development and it is not possible to make any judgments. We look forward to the next steps of Thorstensson and his men: because an alternative to the usual two is really needed…

SYMPTOMS

  • It’s a football simulation
  • NFTs will play a central role
  • A free-to-play multiplayer game
  • The development team played FUT
Doubts
  • The game is waiting to be discovered
  • Which graphics engine implements the targets?
  • How invasive will NFTs be?
  • The future – maybe – in 2/3 years …
