According to Jeff Grubb, the next Need for Speed will feature photorealistic graphics with anime elements and will only be available for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X | It’ll be released on the S, but the game hasn’t been officially announced yet, so we’ll have to do it too. Wait again for confirmation.
How long will we have to wait? We know that Electronic Arts has canceled EA Play 2022 and will be releasing its games separately later, but the hope is that some announcements will emerge already this summer.
Need for Speed Heat (review), the last major installment of the franchise, was well received by audiences and critics alike, due to its interesting structure alternating between day and night and the changing events accordingly.
Rumors about the anime style suggest that EA is looking to focus on arcade mechanics once again, in keeping with the brand’s tradition, but otherwise the project is still in mystery: we’ll see.
