Thanks to Ubisoft we can Try Rainbow Six Extraction’s new crisis event Nightmare Fog. As before, Ubisoft is releasing these special 3-week events in-game. During this time, weekly missions are changed and players can try their hand at an event that slightly changes some of the mechanics and bring innovation and freshness to the gameplay loop.
short but intense
Up front, Nighmare Fog is certainly not the funniest event we’ve played in a Rainbow Six game, but it’s definitely the son of a series of events that have marked both Siege and Extraction lately. In this case too, therefore, we found ourselves in front of an extraordinarily fascinating idea and in perfect synergy with the Rainbow Six Extraction style. The REACT team will have to face a mysterious threat that will shake their belief in what is right and wrong, and cast doubt in the minds of the operators.
In terms of gameplay, the premise turns into a fog that permeates every corner of the map except for the starting area, the safe rooms, and the decontamination areas between one submap and the next. This fog will increase a percentage above the life bar, a new element introduced specifically for the event: Neurotoxin level. The more you are exposed to the fog, the more this value will increase, causing more and more hallucinations in the player who will see more and more fake enemies attacking him.
Each level has three sections, once you fill one of them (30%, 60% and 100%) and enter the next, the visual effects of the toxicity will also change in terms of effects on the player. if up to 30% hallucinations they will only be visual, in the second stage, the view of the player will be blocked with different effects on the screen, and in the last step, even life will be lost. However, the player will have a safe room where they can find a new consumable on each submap. neurostimulatorsTo lower the level of neurotoxins.
Each mission will consist of three randomly selected submaps from those from the base game. Of these three submaps, only the first will have a set of multiple objectives, while the other two (second and third) will have fixed objectives. For example, if you can find both hunting and Nest tracking or triangulation in the first, you’ll have a variant of the decontamination target on the second submap, which you’ll need to destroy quickly on this map. Perverted Slots Face a large number of enemies and hallucinations. Finally, the third submap will offer an objective called “destroy the poison tree”, which is mechanically a variant of removing the operator in basic missions. You will need to find the tree and shoot at the junctions of the branches that will open for the lifeblood to flow. If you’re not fast and fit, the tree will self-heal over time and nullify your actions, thus exposing you to more toxicity.
Awards and Vigil
In terms of rewards, the player will gain more experience points when encountering and completing this event, and will have the opportunity to unlock uniforms, talismans and skins thanks to 4 new Crisis Studies, as well as gain new knowledge with a special Studio. It’s not fancy, but it’s definitely a great way to entice servers to fill up. The Protean variant of Vigil will also debut with this event and can be encountered in the base game after completing the Gateway objective. Finally, when you reach level 10 with an operator, another 10 levels called Prestige will be unlocked. In short, in terms of content, the event, which will run until June 2nd, seems to be on point, but what about our experience?
When talking about exactly how the event looks to us, we must acknowledge the value of creating something coherent, artistically inspiring and conceptually captivating to the development team, yet seemingly so simple. However, we have used operators that are maximally developed but cannot use all the REACT Technologies that a regular player would definitely have.
Assuming that there are no restrictions on accessing the event, but the average player is very likely to achieve near-perfect level with the operators, this really did seem like an overly uninspired challenge.
Our Extraction experience has given us challenging and challenging gameplay that rewards synergetic teams and focuses more on communication than frenzy. This event only became complicated when 100% neurotoxins were reached. However, halfway through when you figure out the mechanism to solve the problem using the safe rooms, the toxic fog just became mindless. However, the hallucinations do not hurt, but force the player to “waste ammunition”. . Unfortunately, they have a purple halo that allows you to train the eye in a short time, get over the problem in a short time.
Nightmare Fog is definitely an above average artistic quality event for timed events. Interesting and fascinating in concept, it offers a few fun ideas during sessions with a close-knit team. We also found ourselves in the face of an excellent craftsmanship event that surrounded the player with a satisfying offer in terms of content. Unfortunately, what the event lacks is in terms of challenge. The neurotoxin quickly stopped worrying us like hallucinations. Overall, our impression is that Ubisoft’s level of offer for these in-game events is definitely above average.
