The lawsuit was launched in 2020 by Marty O’Donnell and Mike Salvatori, but has included nearly all of the management of the Halo series soundtrack since Bungie’s acquisition by Microsoft. Essentially, the composers claimed to have licensed the music to Bungie, but they wouldn’t have bought the music when it was bought by Microsoft. Copyright expired.

It seems that the case was based on one. different view of the deal According to Microsoft, it included a commissioned work entrusted to the musician duo rather than a license agreement that provided payment of ongoing royalties. The issue also seemed to risk preventing the Halo TV series from airing, which obviously didn’t happen.

The case was eventually settled in an out-of-court settlement between Microsoft and the composers, but we don’t know the details of that at this time. In any case, O’Donnell seems quite happy with the outcome of this relationship.
