The genre of survival games certainly has no shortage of representatives. However, it must be said that individual projects often look very similar. However, sometimes a work appears on the scene that stands out from the crowd. And it is precisely among such games that Enshrouded is included, which we will consider in the following lines of gaming impressions.
In Enshrouded, you are sent to a fallen world.
The story of this work unfolds in the magical kingdom of Embervale, which before the beginning of this story was a relatively decent place to live. But then a magical liquid appeared on the scene, which had a huge impact on the behavior of people. A number of conflicts broke out all over the world. However, this was not the only thing that began to worry its inhabitants. A magical well rolled out a terrifying curse from its depths, turning more than one living creature into a deadly creature.
The only hope for this doomed universe is you in Enshrouded. Action is simply impossible without heroes. You begin your journey in the bowels of a strange machine, from which you will soon depart into a world that, at first glance, beckons you to explore it properly, and I must say that it did not disappoint my expectations in any way. Because it was full of interesting moments to discover, thanks to which I constantly had the feeling that some great adventure awaits me around the next corner.
However, exploration and the associated discovery of an impressive world full of information is not the only thing that the authors of Enshrouded are counting on. Construction is also very important for you here, which probably will not be such a big surprise for players familiar with the genre. Base building is something that simply cannot be avoided under any circumstances. The raw materials for it can be obtained by felling trees, as well as digging with a pickaxe. Yes, burying the ground has an effect here, thanks to which you often not only mine, but also undermine enemy walls.
Once you have dug up enough raw materials, you can start building. Personally, I was pleased with the fact that you don’t need much to make items and building blocks. In most cases, a few pieces are enough and you can already produce everything you need to build large fortresses or small bases that serve only as rest areas.
The idea that the fortress you build can be inhabited in Enshrouded even outside of multiplayer is a good one. Yes, you read that right. As you travel around the world, you can find other positively-minded characters that can be summoned to your base space. So you have the opportunity to become a blacksmith, an alchemist, a huntress, or a woodworker. Each of the characters will bring their own recipes to your fortification that you can implement. For example, the blacksmith found almost at the start will allow you to build a forge and a smelter, which will give you access to new equipment needed to more effectively survive in this harsh world.
This cannot be done without a fight.
It may surprise you, but the combat system is as good as the building. Its handling is one of Enshrouded’s main strengths. Competitors rarely manage to come up with something as flexible as the combat format you’re working with in this article. It brings back memories of very successful RPGs that play stiffly. It may sound a bit strong, but the mobility and combat effectiveness of the protagonist reminds me a lot of the format used by independent games like Souls, which follow in the footsteps of other games. legendary brand.
The individual tools here behave differently. For example, when you wield a two-handed axe, you have to consider that it’s a completely different weapon in terms of mobility than a sword, a relatively maneuverable bow, or a magic wand. Overall, I had no trouble enjoying the combat at all. That’s why I really enjoyed the monster hunting, and it’s definitely one of the elements that will make me return to Enshrouded one day.
The range of monsters that could be caught was relatively diverse. Players will encounter regular wolves, infected humans, and terrifying creatures from their worst nightmares. In addition to the regular enemies, there are also special figures that pose a worthy challenge to defeat. However, overall, I would have expected a higher percentage of species and forms to be encountered here. However, the creators are still working on this, as well as on various fundamental errors that, apparently, cannot be avoided in early access.
The Enshrouded event already has decent potential
Traveling to the Embervale universe was an interesting experience that I really enjoyed. I was offered a beautifully crafted fantasy world full of deadly monsters that were excellent to fight. In my opinion, the survival concept, which is primarily related to construction, is based on good fundamentals and, in addition, does not require too much from the player in terms of implementing buildings or creating objects. Here and there, I encountered an error along the way, but it did not happen very often.
However, I think Enshrouded can somewhat compensate for the Early Access release at a time when all the attention is on Palword. However, I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed for the creators, because they have managed to create an interesting project that will definitely interest you. Let’s see what else they can add to PC during Early Access. But the potential is huge, so we hope that the authors use it to the maximum.
