Impressions from the game Manor Lords

At the head of a medieval estate.

Much has been written about the strategy game Manor Lords in recent weeks. How could it be otherwise, since it is one of the most anticipated games to be found on Steam. Enough talk about the gameplay, now we have for you the actual gameplay impressions, in which you can learn more about the build, technical condition, and also the battles.

In RTS Manor Lords you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership qualities.

The strategy of Manor Lords makes the player from the very beginning the master or mistress of a newly created village, which needs someone to show it the way. And why couldn’t it be a character created by you. The development here works on the same principle as in most genre works, so from the very beginning you try to create chains of interconnected buildings, thanks to which the space grows and prospers. Much attention is paid to the implementation of travel and, above all, to satisfying the needs of the population related to food and safety.

Only dedicated people can work effectively and move up the social ladder, and this is exactly what you want. It is the growth of families that gives you the long-term opportunity to turn seemingly ordinary houses into decently functioning workshops capable of producing bows or other equipment needed for expansion. I really like the concept of more efficient houses, as the player cannot simply build a few production buildings, but has to think about which family will take which plot, because you pay for it, while moving ordinary people between places of work is free.

But you certainly can’t count on getting it right from the start. As is often the case in strategy games, Manor Lords relies heavily on keeping your people happy. Once you’ve provided your village with a marketplace with all the raw materials it needs, and as a bonus for your villagers, you’ll see the houses grow as the seasons change, and with them the income of the place. , which becomes the center of civilization, where you’ll have to deal with the fact that it’s sometimes subject to raids, disease, and demands from other great men and women who shape the fate of these medieval regions. You can negotiate with other leaders, or make demands on them, which can lead to a variety of situations. But this element is currently only very clearly outlined, so there’s often a struggle.

When the author of Manor Lords recently said that it would definitely not be Total War, he was basically right. Clashes are a special thing here. So there are quite a few spontaneous fights with bandits, but when we talk about big battles, you shouldn’t count on them too much, because no one here has thousands on hand, usually only hundreds, and you are not much better off because this is not a very favorable birth time, and if things are going well, there is always a war or disease that can reduce the overcrowding of the population.

The combat format itself is built on a solid foundation that is consistent with the genre’s norms. In practice, this means that if a more serious encounter occurs, you can expect a beautiful battle full of arrows being fired, shield walls, people dying, and the victors chasing the unlucky ones around the field. I can’t wait to see how the author develops this element in the coming months, because there’s already a lot of potential in the skirmishes, despite the limited unit pool.

Medieval strategy game Manor Lords definitely has potential.

Manor Lords is a very detailed medieval manor management simulator that gives the player the opportunity to take control of a medieval village and gradually turn it into a respectable settlement with a high potential for survival in the coming decades. You can watch the construction of houses, the change of seasons, as well as the growth itself. Everything depends primarily on your building decisions, which lead to the rise and fall of the entire group.

While playing, I felt like the creator gives you a lot of freedom in how you can play. Sure, there are time limits and various small economic flaws, but overall I liked the build and it looked beautiful, which I personally think is quite important, since I have no problem with strategies and spend hours watching how the unit I created works. I would also like to praise the optimization, which is at a brilliant level compared to other games currently entering early access. In all respects, Manor Lords enters this stage of development in decent shape, so let’s hope its author manages to stay strong and give us the most exquisite medieval title in the future.

Manor Lords will be available in Early Access from April 26, 2024 on PC.
