February Editor’s Review – Zing

Although it was a shorter month, in terms of released games and at least reviews, it was the most demanding month in a long time. You do not believe? So try to count, we posted more reviews in February than in any other month before Christmas. Along with the launch of the new VR platform, it has been quite a hassle, but of course we are happy to see so many interesting games coming out. Hogwarts Legacy received exceptionally high ratings from both reviewers and the public (rarely do you find such a close relationship between the two on Metacritic) and is a very strong contender for Game of the Year. In addition, this month there was also a ten, although even in her case it cannot be said that this is a strictly “for everyone” game. Paradoxically, I probably remember Cathy from Deliver Us Mars the most, who stuck with me like no playable character for a long time – and the final message of her story really hit me very hard at the end of the game.

March will be a little calmer against the backdrop of this wild ride, but even though there are a few fewer games, they weigh very heavily. PC players will finally get The Last Of Us Part I (as well as the HBO series finale!), all players will get the Resident Evil 4 remake, but also lovers of innocent adventure games (Chia) or, conversely, a very “Guilty” Czech video game narrative (Crime Boss: Rocky City). Plus, we’ve already got early access to the playable versions of upcoming blockbusters for April and beyond, so you can expect not only a daily dose of game news and a monthly round of game reviews, but also some long-awaited “hands-on” previews. It will be another strong gaming month and we hope you enjoy with us.

Since I’ve spent most of the last month on vacation, in March I’ll have to make up for the rest of February first. Unsurprisingly, Hogwarts Legacy is at the top of the list, followed by Atomic Heart.

But a look at the March range of games shows that we will not be bored this month either. In my case, Resident Evil 4 Remake tops the list of the most anticipated games. As a fan of racing games, of course, I also have to point out the big expansion for Forza Horizon 5, which will be dedicated to rally and off-road themes.

In March, quite unusually, we also expect the release of three highly anticipated sports games in the form of WWE 2K23, EA Sports PGA Tour and MLB: The Show 23. The current month will also be decisive for the Czech development scene. Ingame studio from Brno will release a co-op game Crime Boss: Rockay City, which I am also looking forward to with great curiosity.

Probably the best game I played in February was also the one I had the most respect for. To be honest, I was afraid that Hi-Fi Rush would let me down catastrophically. I’m not a tragedian and I have a sense of rhythm, but rhythm games are in a whole different league. However, this new addition to Game Pass finally broke through my imaginary wall and I absolutely loved it. Whether it’s pulsing walls, meta signals, or combos and stunning the enemy with a chubby robot cat. Using songs in style during a fight is a category of its own, and I certainly don’t mean only well-known pieces like Beethoven’s 5th symphony.

I liked the music in the Omno Canapes, where it was written by Benedict Nichols. The little man’s journey through a forgotten world is characterized by simple and more difficult puzzles, but a great name for a vacation. Wanted: Dead was a fun katana ride that I had fun on despite the cheap visuals and the worst technical condition. And finally, Erica’s “movie game” nicely filled one evening at home. The perfect game for more people in which you help the protagonist of an interactive B-movie come to terms with the past.

It’s clear to me that March will be “Resident Evil month” for many of our editorial staff. However, I am looking forward to two smaller parts. First of all, it’s Tchia, a cute and colorful game in which we’ll explore tropical islands inspired by New Caledonia. The title, in which we’ll solve puzzles and fight while getting into the bodies of various animals and objects, will appear in the PS Plus Extra catalog on the first day. The second game is Storyteller, an indie game published by Annapurna Studios and created de facto by one person. The main challenge here will be to build the story using given characters or twists so that it makes sense. Hopefully another great relaxing canape.

The shortest month of the year is over, but I must say that this time it was very eventful. Games were raining down on us from all sides, but unfortunately I didn’t have as much time as I would like due to my school obligations. So I only played (old) new Kirby, which was good and was a good release for me, and The Settlers: New Allies, which I suffered a lot and just wanted it to end. I’m sad how this game ended and I’m afraid it could be the end of the series.

In addition to these games, I’ve taken on the NG+ remake of Dead Space, but haven’t finished my second playthrough yet. Let me just remind you of the relatively solid video offering we created in February, whether it’s a video review and technical analysis of Dead Space, as well as several podcasts.

As for March, my most anticipated game is clear – Resident Evil 4 Remake. While the quartet isn’t one of my favorite parts, I’m still excited about the remake and looking forward to the recently announced demo. If I have time, I definitely plan to play the original again before the remake comes out.

Back in February, I spent most of my gaming time in the wizarding world through Hogwarts Legacy. The enthusiastic response, and yes, even the controversy, made me buy the game, even though I had only minor interest in it in the weeks leading up to its release. In the end, it really captivated me, mainly due to the gameplay and world design. For me, the more significant shortcomings so far are the plot and illogicalities like passing time at school or throwing unforgivable curses with impunity.

I’ve also tried Atomic Heart through Game Pass, but I haven’t gotten too far yet and I really don’t dare to give even the most cursory reviews. Perhaps I will note that I was more attracted by the atmosphere than the genre, which I, of course, do not despise, but do not like too much either.

I admit that I have no clear favorites in March. I’m definitely interested in Czech Crime Boss: Rockay City or The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR. But both are mainly from the position of an observer and a journalist. I feel the same about the return of Fatal Fram, Resident Evil and the soul-like Wo Long. But it is quite possible that I will finally play with the PC release of The Last of Us Part I.

Another month has come and it must be said that February has been a few weeks for me, full of games that I’ve been really looking forward to. In the early days, I devoted myself to SpellForce Conquest of Eo, it was so great that it was hard for me to leave Wanted: Dead. At first glance, the event, which looked great, ended up being a big disappointment. Luckily, I soon cured my sadness by building pyramids in Pharaoh: A New Era before my next stop was the battlefields of Company of Heroes 3 and the packed stadiums of Blood Bowl 3. I also spent some time playing The Settlers: New Allies. but I try to forget those moments.

At least the first days of March will be a wave of more dynamic games for me. Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is on my list of games to play. Once I cut through all the enemies of the Three Kingdoms era, I will definitely want to plunge into the atmosphere of The Last of Us on PC. I am also tempted by the event Have a Nice Death and of course the Czech crime lord: Rockay City, which immediately attracts me for several reasons. However, as a strategy fan, I’m most looking forward to the end of the month when the massive RTS The Great War: Western Front arrives. Well, I definitely won’t be bored anymore.
