The story takes place during the events of BORUTO, when the ninja world is experiencing a period of peace with Naruto as Konoha’s Hokage. Boruto discovers the popular online game Ninja Heroes and is introduced to Nanashi, the game’s browser.
At the same time, something strange is happening in the real world and the Fifth Ninja World War is about to break out. As the ninja world descends into chaos, Boruto realizes that a mysterious man, Mertz, is responsible for trying to start a war.
