TO storm update has just landed while continuing to develop a Steam Early Access game that already claims to be one of the best city-building games of 2023. It’s only been a few weeks since the Sentinels of the Forest update brought Fox People, the fifth playable game. species, to Against the Storm, but new content is on the way. This latest update features a spooky shipwreck, new ghost encounters, and more.

Developer Eremite Games highlights the “very positive” response to Foxes, noting that themed ads on the Steam home page have helped boost the game’s popularity significantly. Since the release of Sentinels of the Forest marks the completion of “most of the early access goals on the roadmap.” Eremite Games says there’s a lot more to come and a new roadmap is coming soon.

For now though, the Merchant Shipwreck update only starts with this one: a giant wrecked ship that can be found in one of the many forest glades in Against the Storm. Finding it will provide you with two solutions, it will offer a trade-related effect, and it can potentially backfire if not handled properly. On top of that, Eremite Games has added new solutions to some of the old events, where previously only one option was available.

Elsewhere, Living Matter has been completely redesigned and has now been replaced by Blood Flower. Several other gaps have also been filled with new acts to match the newly added modifiers, new ghost encounters (including fox-related ones), and various new commands that require you to complete tasks like clearing valuable trade routes or speed. efforts to spread over several clearings.

Balance changes have been made in several places that Eremite Games says go beyond numerical changes. Trade route reputation is now based on the amount of amber sold instead of the number of trades made, ghost spawning in Cursed Royal Woods has been adjusted to reduce the chance of re-encounters, and cysts will appear closed during a storm if the previous open was destroyed.

One of Against the Storm’s strengths, as noted in our gameplay preview, is its easy to use menus and user interface that do an excellent job of conveying a lot of systems and information in a clear and easy format. to use. To treat. path. path. It’s also changed, including ways to adjust production limits more quickly and a color-coding system for easier-to-read tooltips at a glance.

Against the Storm Merchant Shipwreck Update: Two Blood Flowers that replace the Living Matter event

balance changes

  • Adjusted the spawn rate of ghosts in the Cursed Royal Forest. The chance of finding two identical ghosts on the same map should now be minimal.
  • Changed the way cyst spawning works during storm. Previously, all the cysts that appeared during the Storm would open immediately. Now, after the last open cyst has been burned, subsequent cysts will appear closed.
    • This means that if you are in the middle of a burning cyst during the storm and a new one appears, it will burst open. But if you burn all the cysts and a new one doesn’t appear until after the last one has been destroyed, it will remain dormant until the next storm (or until awakened by an event like an infested mole).
  • Changed the effect of the Land of Greed modifier. No longer removes event rewards.
    • Land of Greed: A strange totem forces you to focus only on your wealth… And the Crown is worried. Impatience grows 50% faster, but each current trade route reduces the rate at which impatience is generated by 20%.
  • Added new fixes to 5 existing compensation events.
    • Corrupted Caravan: with a chance to clear it or send infected goods to the Citadel (marked as corrupted).
    • Smoking equipment: with the possibility of breaking or repairing it (and receiving a decoration with a special effect as a reward).
    • Withered tree: With the possibility of peeling or cutting it down.
    • Petrified Tree: With the ability to cut or heal it (marked as Empathy).
    • Harmful machinery: with the capacity to clean or demolish.
  • If the player has not reached level 2 after the second tutorial map (because they missed the tutorial, lost a game, or an update reset their settlement), they will be automatically upgraded to level 2 after accessing the world map for the first time.
  • Starting caravan size is now based on in-game years instead of the number of villagers.
  • Changed the reward for the “repair” option in the “Leaky Cauldron” cleanup event. Instead of giving reputation, it generates fertile soil around it.
  • Changed the way beginners level up. Previously, the number of new residents was based on the population of the colony. The numbers are now statically based on the number of years that have passed. This change was introduced to allow players to recover faster after a chain of negative events wiped out a significant portion of their inhabitants.
  • Changed the way reputation levels are increased when using trade routes. Previously, the level of neighboring cities increased after passing a certain number of routes. Now the value of your transactions matters. This change should bring more variability to the system and allow for a more reliable reputation (with large transactions).
  • Increased need for complex foods in survival effect. Resolve now requires 200 compound food (was 150) to add the Resolve bonus.

  • The resource tooltip now indicates which buildings the player owns (they are highlighted in the list of all buildings that can produce the specified resource).

  • Changed the name and icon of the Obsidian Shovels perk to avoid confusion.
  • Improved the scale of almost all tooltips in the game. Tooltips should now be able to scale more easily in all directions.

Other

  • Added 2 new music tracks to Cursed Royal Woodlands (during Storm).
  • A new officially supported language has been added: Thai.
  • Changed the visual representation, name, and description of Living Matter. The event (and its clone) is now called Blood Flower. This change was made primarily to get rid of the old Living Matter model (which was just a particle effect) and tie it a bit more into the game’s story.
