April editorial review – Zing

April was interesting for Zing, including the fact that we completed exactly a year of work under the management of the new owner of the magazine – the Grunex agency. Did you, as our readers, find this year at Zing different from previous ones? As for April itself and specific games, despite the fairly strong competition, my favorite this month was Dead Island 2 by a wide margin, which I kept coming back to long after the passage, because I simply did not want to leave it. great gameplay and impressive setting. The gameplay was great in the most anticipated game of the month, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but in the end, I was most impressed with the story – Cal Kestis has become a much more interesting protagonist since the first part. The only pity is the technical problems, which are not so terrible on consoles, but obviously in many cases completely ruined the game for PC players. Of course, this month’s imaginary award for best visual experience went to Horizon Forbidden West’s Burning Shores add-on, the graphics in this game are simply out of this world. In addition, the story set a clear foundation for the third installment, making it a must-have for fans.

May is going to be a real treat for some players as the most anticipated game of the year comes out, one that has the ambition to rewrite the rules of genres and mainstream games just like its predecessor Breath of the Wild did over six years ago. . We are talking, of course, about the game The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the Nintendo Switch console, which adds new production (and not only) machines and free exploration to the giant world. Quoting a classic, writing that I’m looking forward to this game is about as accurate as saying that an atomic bomb will explode loudly. Just take a look at how fans are reacting to the latest trailer:

Additionally, my colleagues and I will be taking a look at the vampires in Redfall in proper co-op, and according to some unconfirmed reports, we may have a big PlayStation presentation in May. It’s going to be another very exciting gaming month and we look forward to having you join us.

There were some interesting titles released in April, but I personally got only one that I also reviewed – Sherlock Holmes The Awakened, and we also offered you a review in the form of a video. This is a relatively classic gaming load from Frogwares, but it can surprise you in both positive and negative ways. The biggest success remains the fact that we managed to complete the game in those conditions, and I’m already curious what the Ukrainian developers have in store for us next.

Other than that, I went Platinum to Dead Space Remake in April, which I’ve played three times and confirmed to be on a very similar level to RE4 in quality, but I have yet to play it again. Also, I’ve only turned on some games a few times to relax, but I’ve been in “full” high school graduation mode since mid-April. I’m really looking forward to getting this over with and hopefully next month I can write in my review that I have successfully completed all my duties and will have enough time to play for a few months.

In fact, I’m very happy that there won’t be a game coming out in May that I have to play at all costs. So, when I have time, I will basically start catching up with everything that is left (and not only) from the last months. On the other hand, I’m quite curious about at least the full release of Darkest Dungeon II, which I haven’t played since early access (preview here), so it will be interesting to see where the title has moved at that time.

Do you remember what you played in 2005? At that time, I could only dream of a PlayStation, so I only got to the old God of War now, and instead of watching other people’s videos, I finally tried it myself. Of course, the graphics have changed since then (I had a subscription remaster available), but the charm remains. It was funny to notice that even the largest details of the two new parts are inspired by their predecessors. And finally, try out the famous Tower of Hades, which looked absolutely cool (not cool) if you just watched it passively.

Also, I played the great detective game The Forgotten City, where you try to save yourself and a group of Romans who are lost somewhere in caves full of whispering golden statues in a time loop. The game only takes a few hours, but it makes the most of every moment, and even now I have no problem naming most of the characters. Some you will like, others will amuse you. The dialogue and story twists bring a few moments where you really stop thinking about them. And any game where you can “win” a fight with just words is a plus for me. I ended up catching up with old games in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. I was pleasantly surprised that the shorter game suited me better than its predecessors, and I understood the heresy that Chloe as the main character interested me and enjoyed listening more than colleague Nathan Drake. Unfortunately, I can only dream of a work in which they would work side by side all the time as partners.

Of the new games, I returned in April only for Aloy in Horizon: Forbidden West, specifically in the DLC called Burning Shores. It’s still a great game where you can sometimes just fly around on a robotic bird and enjoy the views, but I found the Horizon series approach a little outdated for me. I’m interested in the two May games, and I’m guessing not many of my editorial colleagues mention them. First, arcade racing LEGO 2K Drive, and secondly, the puzzle game Humanity, where you have to lead confused people behind the light, creating different symmetrical shapes (from these people).

In April, I devoted my time to the remake of the fourth Resident Evil, which, despite high expectations, certainly did not disappoint. As in the case of the remake of the second part, I was often simply amazed at how sensitively and at the same time inventively and boldly Capcom approached the new version of the already cult work. I also spent time revisiting some old games.

April review of the mafia remake from the editors

First of all, I was tempted to rewatch the first Mafia remake within a month, made easier by the recent addition to the PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium subscription. Despite my incessant complaints about some of the changes the remake brings to the original game, I enjoyed playing through the game repeatedly over time. In conclusion, I just sighed that such games, combining a strong story, an open world and a historical setting, are punishingly few. As usual, I filled my spare time with racing titles. This time it was basically Gran Turismo 7 which, with regular updates and the addition of new cars and sometimes even tracks, still has a lot to offer.

From the May offer of games, I would like to highlight the motorcycle racing TT Isle Of Man: Ride on the Edge 3. The first two parts still offer a unique experience within the racing genre that even the most demanding players will appreciate. Therefore, I do not expect anything less from the third part. Among other games, I’m looking forward to the console version of Company of Heroes 3. I didn’t get the PC version at the time of its release, so the console version might help me fix this mess. I’ll also be keeping a close eye on the initial reaction to the horror films Amnesia: The Bunker and The Final Trials. Especially the first of this pair of titles attracts me with its setting during the First World War. I’m looking forward to the upcoming release of the Lord of the Rings: Gollum event with a touch of disbelief.

At the turn of March and April, I played the PC version of The Last of Us Part I and reviewed it in detail in the review. We also talked about her on the podcast.

As a newcomer to the series, I thoroughly enjoyed the game despite the technical difficulties that accompanied it on PC. I’ve looked back into Gears of War, especially Volume 2, which is sort of a prototype cover, and it’s amazing that this pivotal series has eluded me until now. But I spent most of my time in Ghostwire: Tokyo, which moved to Xbox a year later and straight to Game Pass. I will not hide my delight, the spiritual event from the Japanese metropolis completely absorbed me and after a short break I can not wait to walk around Shibuya again and feed some abandoned shiba inu.

As for May, I’ll start from the end. I’m certainly most curious about how the System Shock remake will work – and what it’ll be like. I really hope that the long wait will pay off in due course. Otherwise, I cannot but mention Gollum. Even if, like many other previews, I wasn’t too excited, this is still a new game from Middle-earth and just can’t be ignored.

Time inexorably flies forward and winter is slowly leaving our lands. The past month has been very busy in every way. Thanks to this, a number of interesting projects fell into my hands, to which I paid my attention. I spent a lot of time in Minecraft Legends and it got me so engrossed that I stayed in it for a while even after defeating the raiders. I’ve also devoted a good portion of my days to Total War: Warhammer 3, where a new expansion has arrived to move things forward. However, Deus Ex Revision, which is absolutely bombastic, cut a big chunk of the pie off for me.

April's System Shock Editor's Review

May seems a bit busier in terms of games. From the very beginning there will be two parts that I definitely will not miss. As a big fan of vampires, I’m going to be hunting them down in the Redfall event, and while I’m there, I’ll also get a taste of the life of the other side in the old Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption. Once I get rid of colic, I would like to start the campaign in Age of Wonders 4. I am looking forward to the break in the form of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun after due brain exercise. However, I’m most looking forward to the new System Shock this month as I’m a fan of the Deus Ex series and the original games and enjoy consuming this format in large quantities. This time I definitely don’t count on boredom.
