I’m currently in London for Acer’s global press conference, where I’m learning about the company’s latest technologies. Among recently released updated gaming laptops, the Acer Predator Helios 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition stood out among its competitors for all the right reasons. In fact, I’d say I’ve been more excited about using a laptop since the Steam Deck days.
Successor to the Acer Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition released last year, the 3D 15 enters the race to be the best gaming laptop with a unique trick: glasses-free 3D. It’s not the useless 3D you might be used to seeing in movie theaters, and I honestly couldn’t believe the quality of the effect when I experienced it myself.
Playing through the intro of Kena: Bridge of Spirits, I was immediately struck by how my eyes naturally focused between my character model and her surroundings. By maximizing the depth effect on the stereoscopic screen, I really felt like I could enter the game world and grab the objects inside.
Moving further into the game, I jumped a bit when floating petals and particles seemed to fly off the screen at me. The closest I can come to putting on the best VR headset without the need for a separate device. Acer tells PCGamesN that SpatialLabs technology currently supports around 70 video games, and the company expects that number to grow, I really hope it does.
Even without the 3D screen, the laptop has features that match its four-figure price. It’ll work with just about anything you throw at it, thanks to the Intel Core i9 13900HX processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 running under its chassis. Just be prepared to pay a premium for this package as it requires $3499 / £3299 from your wallet.
