Supposedly, the Nvidia RTX 4070 is set to launch this Thursday, and performance leaks suggest it will perform like an RTX 3080. Catch? Well, it’s with Nvidia DLSS enabled, but the GeForce GPU doesn’t seem to use frame generation to accomplish this.
You’ve probably been waiting for the Nvidia RTX 4070 release date since last year if you have a mid-range platform, and we’ve been waiting for it too. Instead of introducing its entire GeForce graphics card, Nvidia started by launching the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, two GPU options that could cost more than a full gaming PC. Pretty problematic given the price difference between the shiny new RTX 4070 Ti and its RTX 3070 Ti predecessor, but it looks like the non-Ti flavors might have what it takes to crack the premium party, albeit with a bit of DLSS support. .
According to Videocardz, Nvidia’s own performance slides on the RTX 4070 show it to be as fast as the RTX 3080 with DLSS 2 alone. Of course, that particular stat is more or less intended to herald DLSS 3, as it is claimed. The card is 1.4 times faster with frame generation enabled.

In addition, Nvidia’s leaked slides claim that the RTX 4070 is up to 1.8 times faster than its predecessor, the RTX 3070. 1.3 times slower acceleration. Naturally, the company avoids pitting the newcomer against existing GPUs like the RTX 4070 Ti, but it looks like scaling does the hard work this time around.
Unfortunately, it seems Nvidia is allergic to RTX 4070 performance figures that don’t include DLSS, as there are no signs of raw GPU comparison data. Of course, it can be argued that the scaler should give the same boost to 4070 and 3080, i.e. they will remain the same with the scaler disabled. However, only independent tests can dispel speculation on this front, so we’ll stop before making any assumptions.
