Needless to say, Motive’s Dead Space Remake is one of my contenders for best horror game of 2023, and there have been some good ones so far. Taking a fresh look at Ishimura’s iconic adventure, a developer has unveiled its Dead Space Demake, which is now available for free.
While it may not be exactly the true Dead Space remake we promised back on April 1, Fraser Brumley’s Dead Space Demake is well worth playing.
Inspired by the pixel art of the ’90s and early 2000s, Dead Space Demake invites you to walk the hallowed halls of the once-proud Ishimura as the bright orange Isaac Clarke.
The trailer shows the game’s opening sequence where you build a plasma cutter. Ominous “severed limbs” are scrawled in blood over the iconic weapon, and when you raise it to chop off said alien limbs, you’re greeted by an aqua-green binary UI. Pull the trigger and a loud “pee” will come out of the metal walls of the ship, and the laser seems to come straight out of the throne’s mesh.
As the next door opens, we see the Necromorph, which looks a bit more like a bunch of twisted meat due to its pixelation. Alors qu’il s’approche maladroitement d’Isaac avec un expression tordue, il se membres de étache de ses membres de él au laser, transformante le en un monticule rouge vif de chair et d’os sur le sol avant que la caravane ne vienne à They are exit point.

I was scared Dead Space as a kid, and reliving that horror as an adult with the remake was a lot of fun. Oddly enough, I find the demake even more terrifying because graphically it can’t be compared to Motive, there’s something so unsettling about the huge pile of square meat rushing at you from the pitch blackness. For die-hard fans of the series, this is an absolute must, but even if you like a good demake, I’d also consider giving it a try.
Dead Space Demake will be released on April 10., and can be downloaded from itch.io. You can also follow Brumley there.
If you haven’t played Dead Space Remake yet (there are plenty here), be sure to download the best Dead Space Remake setup to scare yourself properly. If you love that retro look because, let’s face it, games aren’t as good as they were in the 90s, we’ve got a list of the best old PC and classic games to keep you entertained.
