Capcom has removed the controversial anti-cheat Denuvo from the iconic horror game Resident Evil Village, copying the Japanese titan Square Enix.

According to SteamDB, Denuvo was removed from Resident Evil Village in the early morning of April 10. The change reads “3rd Party DRM Removal: Denuvo Anti-tamper, five different PCs within daily machine activation limit.”

Though it seemed to come out of nowhere, Square Enix also removed Denuvo from the popular RPG Disco Elysium and from Triangle Strategy on Thursday, April 6. There’s no confirmation that they’re related, but that may explain Capcom’s decision.

Denuvo has undoubtedly built quite a reputation over the years, often being accused of slowing down game performance and in turn ruining the gaming experience. Disco Elysium and Triangle Strategy (which was a pain to write), performance issues could be avoided.

While I luckily had no issues with Village, except that the entire Lady D sequence was too short, but I digress, I hope this means future players will have a smoother experience than some at launch.

PCGamesN has contacted Capcom for more information and will update this article accordingly.
