The Absorption Serpent is one of the Seal Authorities of Elden and is built around what one could unscrupulously call a ruse. It requires – or at least strongly suggests – the use of special weapons to complete. It’s a tradition that dates back at least to the Storm King boss in Demonic Minds. It’s also an unexpected two-stage battle that requires players to be very careful. Here’s how they beat the boss.
You will be able to get the snake catcher when you first enter the arena where you will fight the snake that engulfed the god. This enormous spear is often a valuable weapon, but it has a special feature that manifests itself in the battle against the God’s Assimilation Serpent: its attacks produce a long blade of light that extends its reach and inflicts additional damage on the boss. Ashes of War is also useful, giving a powerful attack and an optional follow-up that will shake the snake.
You’ll still want to use this weapon throughout the fight, even when the boss enters the second tier. This is true even if you are essentially a magic user. Magic is not very effective against snakes.
When equipping the Serpent-Hunter, make sure you don’t overload your chosen gear and adjust your armor to keep your shells at the desired speed.
The first stage of a boss fight is not that difficult. The Serpent only has a few attacks, and most (but not all) are easily avoided. A snakebite, where the snake bites you on one side and usually follows a turn in the opposite direction, can be avoided by making a move. The oppressive attack reflects the telegram, which turns its head for a long time, and you can escape from it directly. Both allow for major, potentially full penalties, three-hit light attack combinations.
Serpent has three additional ranged attacks. When it comes to spitting poison, you can avoid running to one side or the other and turning in the same direction when the poison is in front of you. Once it hits the ground and releases magma, you can move through it. When he starts hitting you hard and accidentally shooting Magma, turn around until the attack is over.
The only really annoying attack from a snake is when it smashes to the ground and spits out, causing magma to erupt at your feet. This attack can theoretically be avoided by running the snake upright and leaping or jumping in front of the eruption, but it’s usually best to block it.
When the Serpent’s health strip is depleted, he reveals himself to the accursed demigod lord Ricard. You will still want to use the Snake Hunter weapon for this fight, but it will be a longer battle than the first stage.
Most of Richard’s attacks are fairly easy to dodge. The sword combination moves left to right, then right to left, then strikes forward. Round two is further behind than expected, hitting the ground before it hits a right and you’re confused. Dodge the sword each time. This procedure is the same as when Ricard confused the serpent’s head with a combination.
He held the sword to one side with a combination of strikes from Richard, then struck the ground nearby three times with an optional fourth attack, a fourth attack that knocked the ground off the ground and caused an explosion. To avoid all these blows, you can skip to the page.
If you see Richard turn his head to the left, be prepared to dodge the snake’s head and move left to avoid it.
Ricard can also bounce back and forth, sending magma in all directions and thinking of a flaming skull that creates a fiery trail as it flies forward. Run up against these attacks and you should dodge them fairly easily.
Richard’s big and spectacular attack is called Richard’s Ambition. At one point in the fight, he raises his sword above his head and throws a ball. You might get a few free kicks before that happens, but stay on your feet because the Flaming Skull will soon start raining down from the sky and chasing you. The impact on them will cause explosions and they will last a long time even if Ricard stops the channels. You’ll need to get away from these women quickly or avoid them when they explode.
If Richard does not die by the time the skull is revealed, he will launch another attack. There are more free-kick opportunities, but watch out for his sword, as his sword will fall directly in front of him and create an explosion. You may slide sideways too much or move sideways as soon as the blade hits the ground.
If you want to make this fight as easy as possible, using the Snake Hunter equipped Mimic Tear will cut the duration of the fight in half.
