Communication is key in the new Rust update, which includes many multiplayer features that will be very useful for those of you who enjoy playing with friends (or even interacting with random players) in a survival game. With updates to the map marker system, the long-awaited introduction of markers, and the ability to roam the open world with a friend, fans of co-op are in for a treat. There’s also the Easter holiday, so get your egg baskets ready and read on for all the details.

First, an update to map markers, allowing you to place up to five at a time, and new tools to change the color and type of markers for your markers. You can also add handmarks to it, though they will be truncated to three characters when displayed on your compass. Leaderboards placed by team leaders will be displayed to all teammates along with their own.

Pings have been introduced for even more communication on the go. When using cameras, drones, or binoculars, you can now press the assigned ping key once to place a popup ping, press it twice for a red ping intended to indicate danger, or hold to bring up a circular menu that includes six different options for manual selection. Pings will be seen by all teammates and will last ten seconds unless manually canceled.

If you’ve ever dreamed of riding with a friend snuggled up behind you, you’re in luck: Rust has added a new double horse saddle. By default, wild horses will spawn with a single saddle, but he can change it to a double saddle using the horse’s radial menu if he has it in his inventory. Like a single saddle, a double saddle can be purchased from a groom or made by hand.

Updating the world model will allow you to easily see the types of ammo you have dropped, as well as upgrades to some other items. Shotgun shells are now displayed differently for regular pellets (red), incendiary shells (blue), and bullets (green). Also, the rockets have a new look, making it easier to tell if they are conventional, high velocity or incendiary. The Traffic Sign Trap Gloves have also received a global model update.

To celebrate Easter, the Rust Easter Egg Hunt is organized. Every 24-38 game hours, a hunt will begin, giving players three minutes to collect as many eggs as possible. The top three players in the event will receive special prize eggs, which can be unlocked with “various types of loot, from junk to M249.”

You can also upgrade your collected eggs when you collect ten eggs of the same type, dyed bronze, then silver, and finally gold. If he needs help during the event, there are some items that will help him collect the elusive eggs. The Easter basket lets you collect eggs in a flash, while the jumpsuits and bunny ears give you an edge over the competition with the addition of “Egg Vision.” Easter Rust Shop also sells a paintable egg costume and a homemade Rusty Egg.

Rust Patch Notes – April 6

Here are the patch notes and remaining improvements for the April 6 Rust update, courtesy of Facepunch Studios:

computer station user interface

  • You can now use the arrow keys or the mouse wheel to switch between selected objects. The user interface will also display the status of the object you are currently managing.
  • We have an existing console variable: VehicleDismountHoldTime.
    – can be programmed to a value greater than zero to activate the vehicle salvage hold. This is now also used if you are remote controlling the drone at a computer station. Setting it to something as little as 0.2 seconds can be an easy way to prevent dismantling and accidental breakage of your drone.

Improvements and fixes

  • Alt-click inventory items to bypass loot containers.
  • Computer Station UI – Health Bar, Control Keys, Hold to Delete
  • Floating Unique Items – When submarines and ships are destroyed, the chest drops unique items into a floating container.
  • Vending Machine Genetics: Vending machines and markets now display plant genetics.
  • Fixed Steam Nicknames – Team UI will use Steam Nicknames
  • Putting Doors on Deployables: A few months ago I decided to see if doors could be placed on top of Deployables, which caused a lot of excitement. This required a few more fixes, but it should work now!

gameplay analysis

  • This month we are expanding our analytics platform by recording game statistics on official servers.
  • We are still in the deployment phase so we don’t have many photos to brag about.

Rust Update Patch Notes: Pie Charts Showing Game Analysis

7950X3D Processor Patch, Priority, and Compliance

  • After upgrading to 7950x3d, I realized that you can’t change CPU affinity while EAC is running. I added some commands so anyone can change their Rust core affinity and process priority. You can specify multiple kernel ranges, such as “0-7.15-23”.
  • Everyone should try using a high cpu_priority and see if that makes a difference.
  • If you have 7950x3d, try using cpu_affinity 0-15 so Rust will only run on v-cache cores.
  • You can also add them as Steam launch options: ‘-cpu_priority high’

Multi-threaded network

  • Multi-threaded networking is now enabled by default for both the client and the server. This should improve client and server performance, especially with network encryption enabled, which should be the case on most servers.
  • As a further optimization, we’ve improved the way our memory pool handles contention between multiple threads to ensure there aren’t any edge cases of negative performance from all those extra threads.
  • Earlier last month, we also fixed an issue that caused a single thread to run at 100% load almost all the time when multithreading was enabled. Since this has been fixed, there are no known issues and we strongly recommend all server owners to leave multi-threaded networking enabled.

Safe Mode

  • You can now start or reset Rust in safe mode, a very low-quality baseline that helps diagnose problems. You can use safe mode with the new button in the Options menu or with the -safe mode command in the Steam startup options.
  • You should only use this feature if it has been recommended by our support team or if you are having trouble launching the game. Using this feature will overwrite your current settings, so be sure to back them up first.
