If you’ve taken a look at the World of Warcraft forums lately, you’ll notice that the discussion revolves around WoW’s Ret Paladins, which received a major overhaul in Dragonflight 10.0.7. As it turns out, PvP MMORPG players absolutely hate it, and given its frequency of arena picks, it’s not hard to see why.
While one of the best features of patch 10.0.7 for WoW Dragonflight was one of the smallest, the drastic changes to Retribution Paladin’s skill tree have caused some bad feelings, especially in the PvP area.
Since the March 21 update, Retribution Paladin has seen a huge performance boost, with player pick rates increasing to 28.7% in 2v2, 27.9% in 3v3, and 19%. % in solo ranked random mode. 7%. While WoW Arena records list them as their peak since launch, Ret Paladin has mostly stayed at the teen level (and twenty 3v3) ever since; a big jump well below 5% at all levels.
Given the rather staggering change in pick frequency and performance, this resulted in a lot of backlash, largely condemning Blizzard’s decision to release the revamp so late in the PvP season.
“This is another call to immediately nerf Retribution Paladins in Arena so myself and the thousands of other players who are actually buffing and working on mid-tier season rewards can at least complete their attempts,” wrote one furious player. “Having a single spec fits all takes away the fun and ability for other specs to reliably play and improve.”
“Never give specifications again complete review just before the end of the season, write another. “Do it after the season ends or before it starts.”
One thread claims that “Rets had more games than 99.9% of specs in the last 24 hours,” attaching a screenshot showing it. Note that I couldn’t verify this personally, but the fact remains that there has been quite a resurgence of Ret Pally in PvP.
I don’t play PvP so this doesn’t affect me directly, but the hotfix has clearly affected the health of the game and no one needs it. Blizzard will have to do anything given the volume of complaints; nerfs, rework removal, various rewards are on the table, but whatever happens needs to be implemented quickly.
Fortunately, there are other classes in the WoW Dragonflight tier list that still work, so I’d block any of them if you want to keep playing PvP. Some of the best WoW addons are also worth downloading; After all, it looks like we need all the help we can get.
