Valve just listed The Last of Us as “unsupported” on the Steam Deck after the PC port failed to launch, which was dominated by negative reviews on Steam. While you can still technically play Naughty Dog’s dramatic post-apocalyptic adventure on the go, it currently falls short of the handheld gaming giants’ gold standards.
It’s worth noting that The Last of Us’s compatibility with a Steam platform is important, and the new “Not Compatible” tag doesn’t change that. However, this completely contradicts Valve’s earlier hints that it would be a verified Steam Deck, with even Naughty Dog co-chairman Neil Druckman saying that Joel and Ellie would “beautify” the handheld.

There’s nothing under the hood to cause compatibility issues, but the badge makes it odd among its PlayStation PC brethren, as God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Insominiac’s two Spider-Man games are “excellent on deck.” .
On a more positive note, Naughty Dog says that the patch will be available today and that the Last of Us patch will be out on Friday. Both of these updates could help boost frame rates on PC and improve performance for Valve’s handheld, but we may have to wait a bit for it to come out of the box.
If you’re not completely satisfied with Valve’s laptop in terms of performance, you can try the recently announced Asus Steam Deck alternative. Apparently, Rog Ally will be bringing “AMD’s fastest APU” to the label, and that could make all the difference when it comes to running demanding ports like The Last of Us Part 1.
Of course, everyone at the table will be able to take full advantage of the best Last of Us setup, but as always, make sure your setup meets The Last of Us system requirements before using the PlayStation PC port.
