Fans of great puzzle games like Portal and The Witness will be happy to know that the upcoming Polaroid Viewfinder puzzle game takes direct inspiration from those games, especially in the way it approaches the marriage of story and narrative. . PCGamesN spoke to the team at Sad Owl Studios during WASD 2023 and found out how scopes could be your next cryptic obsession.
According to developers Jacob Keen and Matt Stark, Viewfinder draws inspiration from some of the best peers in the industry, including, according to Stark, “big inspirations like Portal, The Talos Principle, and The Witness.”
A game dedicated to testing your perception both inside and outside the game. The viewfinder allows you to use a Polaroid-style camera to take pictures and use them to change the world around you, among many other cool perception tricks.
“The Seeker is about utopia, finding solutions, friendship and sacrifice,” Stark tells us in WASD’s crowded showroom, adding that the puzzle game design was about “trying to find new ways to tie the narrative themes to the game and make it perfect.” Like the tone of the storytelling is tied to the tone of the gameplay because a lot of it is quite playful and light.”
Stark adds that the team wants to be able to “explore these themes without creating a stark contrast between what the player does and what happens in the game.”
Viewfinder is scheduled to release this year, and you can add it to your Steam wishlist now to stay up to date on its full release.
