4X Galactic Civilizations 4 space game returns and blows up the star system

Stardock announces a new DLC for Galactic Civilizations 4 that brings back one of the most powerful and terrifying weapons in the series. Supernova, the latest expansion for the futuristic 4X space game, also includes new starship classes, combat upgrades, an updated diplomacy system, graphics engine enhancements, and improved modding tools.

While Galactic Civilizations 4: Supernova promises a lot, its most title-worthy addition is a familiar face from the die-hard GalCiv. The Dread Star is a destructive power that will probably take too long to build and is too impractical to use unless you already have a few tricks up your sleeve, but it’s still worth it for the show.

Once built, the Dread Star is capable of blowing up an entire star system in one hit, destroying everything from starships to planets and every valuable resource in between. With their clunky slow motion and the incredible amount of time it usually takes to create one, they’re more of a statement than a practical tool, but it’s certainly fun to see them return.

There’s so much more to discover in the Supernova DLC. Stardock CEO Brad Wardell explains: “From the combat system with starship classes to improvements to the graphics engine and [the] in multiplayer, players will be able to immerse themselves in a vast and complex universe like never before.”

There are new alien civilizations, as well as a new cultural development system and a new research system packed with innovative technologies. Supernova also optimizes the galaxy customization system, expands the modding tools, overhauls the graphics engine, and improves the diplomacy system “with more complex negotiations and alliances.”

There’s no release date yet, but Stardock says Galactic Civilizations 4: Supernova is “coming soon.” You can get more information on the official website.
