Amicia and Hugo’s journey in A Plague Tale: Requiem is filled with struggle and defined by suffering. As the protagonist of Rat Game begins to crumble under the weight of a hostile world, her mental state unravels and she spirals into PTSD. PCGamesN sat down with BAFTA-nominated voice actress Charlotte McBurney at WASD to talk about how she and her character developed during Requiem.
McBurney is a quiet, polite Englishwoman whose nervous excitement matches the sound of WASD. It’s been a turbulent time for Plague Tale: Requiem, which has been nominated for multiple BAFTA Games Awards after last year’s disappointing Game of the Year awards. McBurney is nominated for Best Lead Actor; She more than won something.
As discussed in our Plague Tale: Requiem review, Amicia McBurney is no longer the innocent girl from the first Asobo game. Instead, she is hardened, ready to fight, and ruthless in her search for a cure for Hugo. She kills without fear and punishes without remorse, but the violence has weighed on her mental state. Struck by PTSD, the story-driven game focuses as much on sanity as it does on rats, and McBurney admits that playing the role of a broken teenager wasn’t easy at all.
“When I read the script at home, I cried,” he told PCGamesN. “I definitely drew things that I’ve been through, things that people I know have been through, real things. [things]. I certainly drew a lot from my own experience.
“It was a lot of fun exploring in a very weird and scary way, because it’s not often that someone says, ‘Here, relax.’ We did a section where they were like, “Can we put you in front of the mic and you can cry?” So I just stood there and cried for five minutes. It’s probably the most cathartic thing I’ve ever done, not that it hurts, but it’s okay. We should all try it!”
Amicia’s emotions are what make her so relatable, it’s one of the reasons why I fell so much in love with her as a character. With a smile, she said, “I kind of thought about [the recording booth] like an emergency room, you know the places where you’re going to break dishes and stuff, that’s what it was like to work on “Requiem”; It’s like going in there, but with your emotions and just letting yourself go.”
“When I first read the script, I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, [the writer] seen through me, it’s terrible! Why did he write me as a character? and then when i talked to [him] About that [he] It was like “oh, I wrote it myself.”
Trauma, anxiety, and mental health transcend time, and that’s one of the things that makes Requiem, and the Plague Tale series as a whole, so powerful. If you haven’t played yet, I highly recommend you give the game a try; Just make sure you have some tissues nearby and maybe a tub of ice cream.
If you do, we’ve got a rundown of the system requirements for Plague Tale: Requiem to make sure your rig can withstand the might of Macula, or if you’ve already played and your heart is broken, we’ve got you covered. a list of the best stealth games. Games to entertain you.
